No, you’re wrong. If the big chains are required to pay $20/hour, small businesses will be forced to match in order to attract workers. In addition, everybody is focused on the increase in minimum wage, but IIRC, the new law also requires the affected employers to pay 401k, vacation, and other benefits on top.

It’s clear you’ve never run a business.

Possibly the only thing saving us from labor unions taking over the fast food industry is the min. wage.

Running a business—especially a small business—is very challenging for anyone.
You sound like a clueless leftist economist.

California continues to lead the nation in stupid laws that hurt workers. The constant raising of minimum wages just pushes more workers into higher tax brackets while the costs of everything goes up. Nobody gets further ahead but a bunch of businesses close up putting workers out of work which then impacts unemployment claims in the State. Vicious cycle.

This graph is 10 YO but it is probably even worse now.

Try running a small business for a while—one with a significant number of employees—and then come talk to us.
In the real world statistics are irrelevant.
Waking up one morning and realizing that all your sweat and tears has led to a business that is bleeding out is a true education.

A more important question is can the working class and the managerial class share the same political (Republican) party? I do not know the answer.

Most small businesses fail within a few years—not because their owners are dumb but because it is hard—very hard.

Are you a prisoner in a university somewhere?
Get out and talk to real people who do real work and run real small businesses—they have the answers you seek.

I worked for a small business ( mech. contractor ). I was so disgusted with the greed and lies that I worked my ass off to get a degree. I did that so then I would not have to work with those types again. Even if I made less money it would be worth it.

Start your own small business—any area you like.
I have done it—and failed at it.
The education from that is priceless.

I want nothing to do with starting a business. I did, then it would be a sole proprietor business.
