Speculation is heating up about former President Trump’s choice of running mate.
But the bigger question is, does it matter?
The former president is so uncommonly polarizing that there will be few voters who can be shifted one way or another by a vice presidential candidate. Trump being Trump, his eclipse of whoever is on the lower half of the ticket is likely to be total.

This is the line that shows this piece from The Hill is psyops. They want to plant the thought in people considering switching to Trump that they are outliers and should reconsider their thinking.
The strategy that President Trump should employ when announcing his VP pick is that his pick will be the front-runner in 2028, so that person is critical to MAGA to keep the movement going after Trump completes his second term.
Trump should make his campaign be about being a "kingmaker," so to speak, in that he's naming his successor and will set him/her up for 2028 to carry on the reforms that President Trump will enact in the next four years to reverse the damage that Biden did in the last four years.
President Trump's VP choice must be someone who will rally the Republican base but also be appealing to Independents who feel harmed by Biden's "America last" policies. Trump's choice must be someone who is "presidential" now (not someone who will "grow" in the role), and has the experience to pick up where President Trump leaves off and carry the vision into 2036.
