I believe they really believe what they are saying. They believe that the bell-shaped curve may exist for many things, but it most definitely doesn’t exist when it comes to human intelligence or ability in school.

This idea was actually codified in Federal law with Ted Kennedy’s ‘No Child Left Behind’ Act which required that 100% of public school kids be ranked as ‘proficient’ or higher in math, reading and science by a certain date. That date, of course, never arrived because ugly reality showed up long before.

But the point is, they really believe that any disparity in learning ability cannot be due to nature, but rather things like racism, economic status, etc. All of this in spite of the fact that every human has encountered ‘stupid’ people and their opposite, smart people.
