“This is a country scrounging for troops and money - yet they’re not using prime military age men?”
Reflect on the premise of Logan’s Run. The strategy involves utilizing warfare to decrease the older demographic within the society. By the age of 25, most men have already fathered the subsequent generation.
Likely many older men owned and worked small farms. With them gone, the land becomes an asset to be sold by bereaved families. One reads from sometime back:
"Ukraine might not look like a good financial investment after a year at war with no end in sight, but Harvard, Saudi Arabia, a handful of oligarchs, and the United States investment manager The Vanguard Group see it differently. They are just a few of the investors who have been buying up Ukrainian land – and its rich, fertile soil – en masse, while many Ukrainian farmers argue it should stay in Ukrainian hands. As always. Cui bono? The question is easily and sadly answered.Additionally:
"Still, some foreign companies are sending a clear signal to international businesses that it is worth investing in the Ukrainian economy without waiting for the active phase of the war to end. For example, Nestlé has announced that it will concentrate its European production of instant noodles in Ukraine.
"In general, BlackRock Continental Europe indicates that Ukraine expects its post-war financing needs to reach US$350-750 billion by 2032, much of it to be used for restoration, reconstruction, and modernization. According to the Ministry of Finance, BlackRock intends to create a special fund in Ukraine to attract foreign investment."
Thank you. It’s the only reason that actually makes sense.
