If my circumstances were right for it, I would buy a Tesla - but they’re not.

Everybody who wants one and for whom it is well-suited already has one. There’s nothing wrong with having an EV if your needs are supported by one - but most people are better off with an ICE and they know it.

Peak EV has arrived. The idea of a generation/transmission/charging infrastructure buildout is a stupid fantasy - cannot happen under our existing system of government.

Copy that. The EV fad is over.

IMHO the best practical market for buying an EV are married couples who need 2 cars anyway so that one can be EV and the other ICE. That way you don't have to be all in on just one car type. You have the best of both worlds at the ready. In other words, don't see it as either EV or ICE, see it as possibly having one of each.

That works for my wife and me. We put most of our miles in the EV (26K miles last year, with 16K of those charged at home). And we have the ICE pickup for: 1) the days we need two cars (split up driving different directions), 2) pickup chores, and 3) if we ever decide to go on a long trip that an EV would be bad at (charging deserts, or if I go on a trip without my wife since she's the one who wants to stop every 200 miles and walk around for 10-15 minutes, which is how often the EV needs to be charged anyway).

But even with that, I still wouldn't get an EV unless there are other variables in your favor, such as you don't live in the cold climate, you're in the market for a car anyway, you have a place where you can set up charging at home, and you drive enough miles for the gas and oil change savings to be worth the extra costs of having an EV.
