High Pressure Gas Pipeline Halts Salvage of MV Dali
gCaptain ^ | Saturday 03/30/2024 | John Konrad (aka gCaptain)

Posted on 03/31/2024 3:06:57 PM PDT by linMcHlp

Salvage efforts to remove the MV Dali from Baltimore’s Key Bridge were delayed indefinitely yesterday after a high-pressure subsea natural gas pipeline was discovered under the wreckage.

Yesterday, the Maryland Port Authority held a meeting at the unified incident command center located at the Maryland Cruise Terminal in Baltimore. The Army Corps of Engineers and the US Coast Guard outlined their priorities: firstly, to open the shipping channel; secondly, to secure and remove the MV Dali; and thirdly, to initiate salvage operations “from the inside out”.

MY THOUGHT EXACTLY-—

NO ONE knew it was there?????

Original maps were destroyed when everyone wanted everything on computer-—and then someone hit DELETE????

And people wonder why I have records back to 1965 or SO-— & 4 properties worth.

Brother had a dust up with county officials in So Wisconsin a few years back.

WAS going to cost him a couple of thousand $$ or more for surveyors or more & other experts.

He called me-—I DID HAVE THE ABSTRACT-—dug thru the pages which go back to 1865 and found him the 2 or 3 pages he needed. Copied them-—faxed AND mailed them-—faxed his bacon—

AND he got to VENT ALL OVER the COUNTY RECORDER OFFICE.

For SOME ‘mysterious reason’-—THEY did not have those pages in their records on COMPUTER AFTER they switched away from ABSTRACTS.

I do bookkeeping for a living-—

The best part is the KEEPING.

The even better part is when he or another brother call & ask all kinds of questions about our grandparents, etc, and I can spit it out from memory. One brother says: “HOW can you remember all that? “

I ask him-—HOW come YOU CANNOT?

TOO MUCH WINE? I DON’T DRINK......

If the gas pipeline has been depressurized, then there is no need to delay.

Of course, this is just another excuse coming from DEI government slobs to slow walk the process.

It's so lazy to just start parroting 'click bait' 'click bait'. I checked the website unlike the parrots here.

According to the image at the OP link, the pipeline is represented by a blue line that runs parallel to the bridge

Excerpt:

The concern came during the due diligence process when salvage engineers discovered a high-pressure gas line near the wreckage. According to one source, both the Department of Transportation’s US Maritime Administration (MARAD) and the US Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) have been notified.

A pipeline safety expert from PHMSA confirmed concerns about a particular pipeline. They informed us, off the record, that the operator was notified and the pipeline has been isolated and depressurized. PHMSA records indicate that the pipeline, which carries natural gas under high pressure, is owned by Baltimore Gas And Electric (BGE). It remains unclear when BGE was alerted and when the pipeline was shut down.

Indefinitely delay=Nobody is in charge. There are probably 50 agencies federal state and local that have to agree on every next move. The military is there. The fish and game people. Transportation secretary. Harbor master. Energy commission. Local utilities. jurisdictional issues. Bidding on the salvage and scrap recycling. The coroner and crime scene investigators The unions - dock workers, checkers etc. The ship’s owner. Hazmat people. On and on.

watch out where you drop that anchor. For all the folks wondering why you may not just drop the anchor in a channel. And they did supposedly drop an anchor. My thinking is that maybe the anchor turned the ship into the bridge piling. You see the anchor itself doesn’t hold the ship. The chain does a lot of the work. if you watch the videos it appears the ship was making headway. the channel was straight and the rudder alto possible not responsive should have kept the ship in a reasonable straight course. current and wind being part of the steerage.

Why do they put a gas pipeline where it would be damaged by an anchor drag of a ship in an emergency ?..>>> Usually the pipeline planning takes place long before a ship has an emergency. Take a look at a nautical chart and the coast pilot book for the area. check out spoil areas, pipelines overhead wires, and check out unexploded ordinance.

These reports are absurd. Pipelines and other buried water crossings are marked by signs at each end admonishing mariners not to drag their anchors across such areas. The salvors can't read a sign? I also promise that any pipelines are well known.

Uh, this is Baltimore we are talking about. Which is about as close to Idiocracy as you can get. Institutionalized incompetence, corruption and stupidity is the norm

I'm pretty sure someone is well aware there is a gas pipeline in place but most of the politicians and government employees in Baltimore have a hard time finding the shoe laces on their shoes and are completely at a loss on how to tie them. It's really that bad. In fact, no matter how bad you think it is in Baltimore, it's actually worse.
