I don’t understand why every bridge that has large ship traffic transiting beneath it is not protected by bridge pier fenders. The supports for this bridge looked completely unprotected. Makes no sense.

Why isn’t there “Bridge Bumpers” all around the pillars???

The Dali weight and momentum easily displaced the bridge support’s foundation . . . before the ship struck the bridge support itself.

A fully laden container ship that large going fast, as reported, would have still taken the bridge out fender or no.
