Unless you have worked on a ship you do not understand how much time it takes to drop emergency anchor.
Thank you.
Fmr USN.

If A PROPER SEA AND ANCHOR DETAIL IS SET IT TAKES 1 SECOND TO DROP ANCHOR.

My uneducated guess is 2 years to rebuild the bridge. Price will be 2-3 billion dollars.
Union workers are overjoyed at all this work ahead. Will the Feds (in charge I suppose) buy ChiCom steel like California did a few years ago for their new Bay bridge?
Is Pete Buttigieg still on maternity leave of some sort?

The secretary of transportation, Pete Buttigieg, will be on this with his usual level of incompetency. As soon as he finishes breast-feeding.

We (USN Frigate) had the sea and anchor detail set for every port entry/exit. I guess commercials ships don’t do that? If so then someone should be shot.

As per Maritime Law and the Jones Act he will henceforth be referred to as Rear Admiral Buttigieg in all announcements.

"Not an accident in my initial assessment."
LOL! Your initial assessment? You mean the 20 second video you saw? You have NO idea what happened. Initial assessment, indeed.

I live northeast of Baltimore and rarely take the Key bridge. However, my employer has a plant a mile or two away. Many shipments come in to the plant via the bridge and through the port.
I presume we’ll be if Force Majeure soon on a few items.
The real problem is that there is noting but incompetence at every level. Local, State and Federal. Between Scott, Moore and Biden, none of them have the intelligence to work through this problem.
I’d have crane ships and demo guys already underway to clear the debris. I’d also have people calling every ferry company in America and globally to arrange leases of 2-3 large ferry vessels. Temporary wharves can be set up by the Army Corps of Engineers to move some traffic and take up the slack. Limited to vehicles with deliveries within 15 miles of the bridge or something like that.
Instead, Scott, Moore and Biden are probably wringing their hands trying to get someone to do an environmental impact statement.

Yes, We exported finished goods at one point and ran trade surpluses. But Free Traitors™ didn't like that. More money to be made selling out the US work force...

I noticed that as well. Hard to tell from the video, but it definitely seems to be a lot farther to the right, versus centered in the span.

“There’s no doubt about it being deliberate.”
No doubt? The fact that this occurred during low traffic, early morning hours instead of rush hour raises lots of doubt.

Deep State will likely tell its pet Congress to have the taxpayers write a check to cover all losses.
One way or another since money is fungible.
Betcha.

Better if the USA made everything here. Then these ports would be uneccssary.Better if everyone stayed on the side of the river they were born on. Then these bridges would be unnecessary.

FF as well. We’d have had S&A set for sure. I remember some long boring hours wondering when we’d secure it. I just don’t see that we’d have had enough time by the time the problem occurred. And we were way smaller than a ship of this size. Gotta be some radio that hadn’t been released yet.

And if you are a competent captain or navigator, there is NO WAY you will be that far off course
