After voting to avert a government shutdown Friday, the House left town for its two-week Easter recess without passing critical military aid for Ukraine as the war-torn nation runs dangerously low on ammunition in its fight against the Russian invasion.
Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said he wanted to finish funding the government before shifting his attention to foreign aid for a trio of U.S. allies: Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. And he has rebuffed calls from other leaders to put the $95 billion Senate-passed aid package on the House floor, saying he is drafting his own Ukraine package.
But it means that the lower chamber won’t address funding for Kyiv until mid-April — at the earliest. And Johnson has given few hints as to how he might construct his supplemental aid package, though he maintains it is a priority.
“There’s a number of avenues that we’ve been looking at to address that,” Johnson told reporters this week, adding that funding the U.S. government needed to come first. “And having done that now, we’ll turn our attention to it and we won’t delay.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said his country can’t afford any further delays. He’s told congressional leaders that, without additional aid from the U.S., Ukraine could lose its two-year war against Russia. On Friday, U.S. officials condemned Russia's "brutal" overnight attack on Ukrainian cities and civilian targets, described as the "largest series of air strikes Russia has launched against Ukraine’s energy grid since the start of this war."
For months, the debate over sending Ukraine a fresh round of aid has vexed the divided government in Washington. President Joe Biden, along with the two Senate leaders — Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. — have been exerting pressure on Johnson.

So, how does Brandon and the Senate get around the House? Maybe instead of saying “how” I should say “when”.
A prime place for squatting.
WITHOUT ADDRESSING THE INVASION ON OUR BORDER AND OCCUPATION OF OUR CITIES. Who cares about Ukraine? I sure don’t.
“Not addressing Ukraine aid” is THE PROPER WAY OF ADDRESSING IT, IMHO. The bleeding of the American taxpayers must STOP.
The border is numero uno muchacho.
They addressed it…
“No soup for you”
They need to oust Buck out of spite. Keeps the seat too-for now.
The 51st State

Has to keep it in play.

How are any of those "allies"? How many of their soldiers have died alongside ours in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq x 2 or Afghanistan? How many are serving on joint operations with our people? How much do they pay us for protection?
It's ridiculous to call them "allies". Protectorates, maybe, but allies? With no mutual defense treaties, no payment for services, and no soldiers serving alongside ours?
It's absurd.
Not another damned dime for the UKES, until our Nation’s Border Wall is finished and SEALED!
“ He’s told congressional leaders that, without additional aid from the U.S., Ukraine could lose its two-year war against Russia…”

St Zelensky did not understand what was meant when US leadership repeatedly said they would fight Russia down to the last Ukrainian….besides, no amount of money can save Ukraine, it appears Ukraine is going to be “ Afghanistaned” by senile Joe and his gang of incompetents.
The sooner the better.
“without additional aid from the U.S., Ukraine could lose its two-year war against Russia.”
I got news for these idiots. Ukraine is locked in an attritional battle with a much larger power. Ukraine can’t defeat Russia militarily in this kind of war. Eventually they will run out of manpower and Russia will still have more lives to spend. Weapons are useless if there’s no one left to use them.
Totally agree with your “news for these idiots”.
Plus, we’ve already depleted our weapons supply by sending them so many. Dangerous for us.
Why do they get 2 weeks off when most others MIGHT get a 3 day weekend for Easter?
I do like the squatting idea.
They spend too much time in Washington. Odd years, they should have the long session. Start in January. End in August.
Even years, start in May, end in August.
Wonder of the D.C hookers saved up for the House two-week break?.
Ukes recently got 50 bil from EU plus weapons from pentagon.
Lets wait til after the election before deciding
.. US taxpayers deserve a break this year!
It's a damn shame that the US government persuaded Ukraine to give Russia all its SRBMs and heavy bombers a few years before Russia first attacked them in 2014 then.
Not to mention encouraging them to give up all their nuclear weapons and ICBMs in exchange for some worthless security guarantees in the Budapest Memorandum of 1994.
Afghanistan from 1979 to 1989 was also locked in a war with the USSR, but they made it so costly for the Soviets to stay there that they left.
So if the USA was in Ukraine's position would you just give up and let the Russians take over?
Our ‘Russia policy’ should be fairly clear. It should be the same policy that finished the Soviet Union. Containment, isolation, proxy wars and above all unity amongst NATO allies. During the Cold War, this was enabled by a clear consensus that the Soviets were the enemy, and a unity in public discourse in repudiating Stalinism and exposing its brutality and lies. This was enabled by placing victory in the Cold War above our selfish economic concerns.
Not really. Many of the munitions sent to the Ukraine were end-of-life and would have had to be decommisioned if they weren't used up.
Approximately, 50% of the Russian Forces sent into Ukraine in 2022 have been eliminated for a cost to the USA of around 5% of the annual US defense budget.
Damaging your most powerful enemy that much for such a modest cost seems like a fantastic return-on-investment, especially as not a single American life was lost doing it.
