He was a major criminal partner of Golden Slacks— a real crook. Whatever— he was in on the carbon commodity credits units in the Chi town exchange they had to withdraw when globull warming was disproven, then... and then renamed climate change. Still focused on carbon— it being the major component of petroleum which they still want to corner in their part of the world. Can’t stand how many of them were in US govt and still are— Paulson comes to mind, and the f’n TARP bullcrap program that ruined more than a few good US banks. Wachovia for one.

Not much Cuban-American power in NJ. The population has long dispersed from Hudson County to suburbia or Florida, although Cuban Americans do still own much of the real estate on the Bergenline corridor (now occupied by Colombians, Venezuelans, and Mexicans among others). Hudson County Democrat machine isn’t what it used to be in my mothers or grandfathers time - they couldn’t even stop Steve Fulop from becoming and then getting reelected as Mayor of Jersey City.

North Hudson (Menendunce’s old power base) is a “rotten borough” with very low votes cast relative to its reputation.

Jersey Lifers talk very loud about how they still “run the state” when the old greasers (of all ethnicities) couldn’t stop two Goldman exec transplants from becoming Governor nor will they stop Andy Kim. NJ not only has one of the largest immigrant populations per capita in the US, it has some of the better educated ones too (largest Indian population in the US per capita and largest Korean population outside of Cali - and unlike the Latinos they actually show up to vote).

Do the Patels and the Parks also vote 70% Dem?

Patels tend to vote heavily Democratic although Christie was able to get a slight majority in his reelection campaigns. Parks/Kims are heavily concentrated in a single county (Bergen) and lean more moderately Democratic. A major exception are Korean evangelical Christians who lean GOP.

Republican Party in NJ really needs to get more ethnics (Koreans, Indians, Filipinos, and the various Hispanic groups). I can’t think of a group of white people that they can penetrate more heavily than they already have - seems like every election the GOP reaches for suburban white women but always comes up short in the election totals.
