LONDON (AP) – Ireland is poised to get its youngest-ever premier after Simon Harris secured the leadership of the Fine Gael party on Sunday, replacing Leo Varadkar who announced his surprise resignation last week.
The 37-year-old Harris, who is the government’s further and higher education minister, was the only candidate to put his name forward to succeed Varadkar, who had been Ireland’s previous youngest prime minister, or what Ireland calls its taoiseach.

Run of the mill Fine Gael candidate
A lot more normal than the other freak
He has a Wikipedia page. The two historically important Irish political parties (Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael) aren’t that far apart and are now governing in coalition against the opposition Sinn Féin, Labour and Social Democrats.
Harris is another career politician. He was the “Baby of the Dáil,” the youngest member of the legislature, in 2011. I suggest adopting the Irish custom: Jon Ossoff, Baby of the Senate; Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, former Baby of the House (but still throwing tantrums).
‘What do we know about this Harris guy?’
“Harris, who is the government’s further and higher education minister”
Em… all you need to know, I’m sure. Career weenie.
Hopefully he’s better than Varadkar... how could he be worse? Of course I thought the same vis a vis Eric Adams and Bill DeBlasio.... and look at New York now.
Harris looks “light in the loafers” but still better than our Harris (VP)
Typical euro-twit...
Only insofar as he has no control over US affairs.
