No need for "red flag" laws...anywhere. Every state has on the books laws that say that cops,doctors and others can declare a person to be a danger to himself and/or others and force that person to go,against his will,to a hospital for evaluation. I worked in a big city ER in a hospital that didn't have a psych ward. But there was a huge state hospital literally across the street.

Our doctors would routinely "pink paper" patients to that state hospital for evaluation...often ordering that they be put in four point restraints while being transported. And doctors and cops in every state can do that and have been able to do that for decades. If you're too unstable to have a gun (which does happen) then you're too unstable to be walking free.

BTW...we called it "pink papered" because the official form the state gave us for the doctor to fill out was pink.
