BASTROP COUNTY, Texas – A school bus crash has left at least two people dead and many injured on Friday afternoon in Bastrop County, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.
ATCEMS and emergency officials responded to the crash around 2:17 p.m. on 2751 W. SH 21, which is near Caldwell Road, medics told KXAN News.
At least 40 people were involved in the rollover crash. The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office said on social media SH 21 was shut down due to a crash with “multiple” deaths. At least two deaths have been reported.
The amount of injuries have not been disclosed.

We are bombarded with bad news on a daily basis. Most bad news is of things that are avoidable.
Do school buses have seat belts? For the longest time they didn’t.
That’s horrible for the kids.

Been by that location a hundred times and can’t understand how a school bus, presumably being extremely careful with it’s priceless cargo, could hit/impact a slow going concrete truck or visa versa.
Woe be unto the concrete company if they are found at fault. My Bastrop County lawyer will be on this like a chicken on a june bug.
Bus drivers are no longer always hired due their experience and care for that “precious cargo”. Drivers are hard to find (in my county they are constantly advertising for drivers) so they probably just hire anyone that is a warm body with a current valid driver’s license. However, the same holds true sometimes for concrete truck drivers.

When I was in high school in NC, most of the school buses were driven by students. I was one of them.

I’ve read that at least 30% of schoolbus drivers quit each year, necessitating constant and unending recruiting and likely a laxing of standards in order to fill driver seats whith whoever.

My son is a trucker with a recent bad crash involving a moron driving a school bus. Moron bus driver pulled out of a side street directly in front of my son and his fully loaded dump truck. He thought “ I’m not killing kids today” and put the truck onto its side evading moron bus driver, who bye the way fled the scene.
He landed on a freeway bridge and totally crushed the cab so bad the first cop on the scene called med/evac then realized my kid was already out of the truck and walking around.
Moron driver got discovered and was immediately fired. Don’t assume they are all good drivers or care about the cargo.

Thank God your son was ok after that horrendous crash. Kudos to him for putting his own life in serious danger to not hit that bus full of kids! What a fine young man you raised.

I was on a road and passed a big Freightliner semi. The driver hit his loud engine brake right next to me. ( commonly called a Jake Brake, that’s the loud rumbling sound a semi makes.
The I got a phone call from the punk kid asking how I liked his Jake brake.

Seriously the Lord blessed him, the kids and our family when he made that courageous decision.
They were going to add seat belt but some politically thought it was too nanny government so they dropped it.

Once upon a long time ago I owned 18 wheel aggregate hauling trucks. I had one admonition face to face with all my drivers. Namely: If you have a wreck that IS your fault and you get a ticket you need to not wait and just RUN and never let me see you again. Years later, one of my trucks was attempting to turn right on an off ramp down hill and to the right and going way too fast. When I got there the 100k NEW truck (back then) was laying on its side and the load spilled everywhere. 20 years later, I’ve never seen the driver and nobody ever came to claim his paycheck.
