The Holocaust was a war to exterminate the Jewish people, and others. But almost all of the outspoken Nazi rhetoric was against the Jews. It was part of a war of ethnic and political chauvinism, the idea that the Germans were victims of others but were a superior race that needed to conquer lots of territory to prove their superiority. It took almost a decade before people realized how sick in the head dangerous the Nazi ideology was.
Hamas speaks like Nazis. The war in Gaza is entirely the fault of the Palestinian leadership for simply refusing the right of the Jewish inhabitants their right to self determination. The Palestinian people would have had a state of their own by now had their leaders accepted this at any time in the 20th century - 1929, 1947, 1967, 1973, 1999 and even more recently when Trump sent Jared Kushner with a massive proposal. The leaders are stuck on ancient grievances that have gotten them nowhere. If they made peace, they would find not only a willing partner in Israel, but they would find that Israel is their best hope for prosperity. Who else are they going to trade with? Poor Egypt? Poor Jordan? Or rich Israel. Their leaders sacrifice generations on Pan-Arabist and Pan-Islamist chauvinistic ideologies born generations ago, which state that Arabs and/or Muslims are superior people who need to control other lands and other peoples. These ideologies are from 75-100 years ago, but are now practically dead everywhere else in the Arab and Muslim world today. Most of the Arab world has realized their own self interest is more important than perpetual war over ideas that sacrifice generations of their own people.
It’s sad that people don’t know this history. It’s also sad to see so much death and destruction. The Palestinian people need to get a new program. Peace and prosperity and growth is much better than squalor and war and death for an ideology that has not only never worked, but is no longer even supported by their ethnic and religious brothers. Only Iran and Isis agree with this, and those are not long for this world either.
