The domestic auto industry was a major pillar in our prosecution of WW2. Letting it die due to Chinese competition from Mexico would not be a good thing for our defense stance. Which the Chinese surely know. Death by 1000 cuts.

I was amazed to learn that Ford had produced so many B24 bombers in such a short period of time. Something like 15 thousand in about a year and a half
