CHICAGO — Prosecutors say two Chicago men robbed a construction crew, exchanged gunfire with an off-duty sheriff’s deputy at the scene, fled, then returned to fire another shot, only to have one of the victims pull out a gun and open fire on them, too. No injuries were reported.
And, according to court records, one of the men was eyed as a suspect in a series of robberies last fall but ended up being charged only with a misdemeanor. He’s also on “first-time weapon offender probation” for a 2022 gun case.
The robbery occurred on March 1 in the 11500 block of South State. Two gunmen got out of a stolen Kia and robbed four construction workers at gunpoint, taking phones and wallets, according to a Chicago police report.
An off-duty sheriff’s deputy working security intervened in the robbery and exchanged shots with both robbers, the report said. The offenders then fled the scene.
But they came back moments later and fired at least one shot into the air, prosecutors said. That motivated one of the victims, a concealed carry holder, to pull out his gun and shoot at them as they ran away.
Cops arrested Williams and Alexander as they tried to leave the area in an Uber, according to the CPD report.
Both men are charged with attempted murder, four counts of armed robbery with a firearm, one count of attempted armed robbery with a firearm, and aggravated assault by discharging a firearm. Judge Maryam Ahmad detained them as threats to public safety.
Williams has been on first-time weapon offender probation in a gun case since September 2022, according to court records. The program will wipe the gun charge from his record if he completes the probation successfully.
Last September, almost exactly a year after going on probation, Williams was arrested in another case. Acting on information that two robbery suspects ran into an apartment building from an abandoned stolen car, cops found Williams “pretending to be asleep” inside an apartment that had a broken door, a CPD report said.
The officers said they found a gun on a bookshelf, a large amount of cash on a dresser, and another man suspected of being involved in ten robberies. Williams also had a check made out to a Hispanic man who had been targeted in an armed robbery the day before, CPD’s report said.
Prosecutors only charged him with misdemeanor theft of lost or mislaid property. Judge Barbara Dawkins released him to await trial the next day.
Couple of aspiring rappers just trying to turn their lives around.
So they all missed?
That’s what I call good “gun control”

I live north of Mathis, TX. The former police chief was arrested with stolen drugs in his bedroom. He is also accused of tampering with evidence. He was/is in cahoots with what is called the “Mathis Mafia”. Probably their ringleader. I carry when I go into town for anything.
My friends (farmers) are sure a local business is involved in human trafficking.
Hunter?
Like those statements of if you stacked up all the ((somethings)) they would reach to the Moon. Example: How many chickens on each other’s backs would it take to reach the Moon? Approximately 837,437,778 chickens.🐔🌘
How many mug shots of the recent serious crime suspects who are persons of color would it take?⚖️
Still counting.
Ha.
Even with the Progressive ad about the bank robbers slowly getting away as the new “wheelman” wants to be a slow, safe driver.
