“Europe is a continent of pacifists – no amount of money can fix Nato. The region is neither militarily or politically prepared to uphold her treaty commitments”

A simple and true statement.

Eisenhower foresaw this. He said America needs to be out of Europe ten years after WW II. America allowed Europe to take advantage of our defense shield like spoiled children. Now Dad is broke.

The French have some top notch special forces and the Legion. The problem is the political leadership.

Our best move is to keep NATO as a pretend alliance that disguises our treatment of Europe as an American protectorate subject to our demands and directives. The partial exceptions would be Britain and Poland, with whom we should develop bilateral military plans.

Contrary to Luttwak's thinking, Poland needs a Baltic naval force to maintain reliable access to the sea and bottle up the Russian navy in port. Meanwhile, Poland is acquiring the weaponry for a projected expansion her ground forces.

They are not so much pacifists as, like Cinderella’s ugly stepsisters, used to the idea that their kid sibling US should do all the paying for and dying for and unpleasant slogging about for their defense.

They’ve preferred to stay out of harm’s way, but harm now appears to be coming their way.

The global elite no longer seem to want to protect anyone’s hoi polloi.
