Despite its reputation for gastronomy, France has become an American fast-food mecca. I lived in Italy for nine years. One of the most popular restaurants in my nearest big city was a sushi place, it was almost impossible to get ib on a Friday ir Saturday night, proving that even Italians need a break from pasta and pizza. I suppose the French need a break from quiche and souffles occasionally too.

The question for me is why the French are not obese like Canada, USA, UK. etc ?I asked a Frenchman that very question and the answer was 'we don't sit in front of the TV eating chips and drinking Coca Cola'.

When I was in France, 1969, I found the food to be rather repulsive. On my several visits to France, all less than two weeks, I found the food routinely fantastic.

Now Europeans are getting fat eating the Standard American Diet (SAD). I see KFCs everywhere I go in Europe.

Never read the book, I wonder if they mentioned the huge difference (~3X) between cigarette-smoking rates between French women and American women. Smoking is an appetite suppressant, and nicotine is a stimulant that accelerates metabolism. It’s sill to ignore all that when approximately 40% of French women in the 18-50 age-range are smokers. After my mom quit smoking she gained 40 lbs.

Have you looked at their menu, though? They’ve got hot dogs and random fast food on it. Not really “KFC” in my book.

France does not use United States units of weight.
There, the Quarter Pounder is sold under a different name
and is called the Royal Cheese and includes cheese.

—” But I LOVE American food. Hamburgers,”
I worked with an Indian engineer who developed a liking for hamburgers from a local place.
When he married, a trainee/jester announced to all, “If Av ever comes home with cow on his breath, it will be big trouble at home”.

My only experience with European dining was during a trip to Copenhagen. Went to several nice restaurants and the portions were definitely smaller than what you’d get here. So maybe they simply don’t eat as much at each meal? I’d also guess their diet tends to be higher fat but lower carb.

The food in Europe is much more higher quality than here, especially the meats, usually it’s grass-fed. No GMO.

:: shudder :: I hate liver. Dad used to love liver and onions and we always seemed to have liver when I was in trouble. :: sigh ::

That looks good! I’ll have three of them, and if the pickles are missing I’m going throw my bassett hound through the drive up window, which is how we do it here in Tennessee.
