If not ... we have learned nothing.
And, it could happen again, sooner rather than later.
You mean castrating someone and putting them in a position of chronic pain for the rest of their lives increases the risk of suicide?
If only we could have known this was a bad idea!
Late to the party, the American Psychological Association just recently issued a statement supporting all “gender-affirming care” for children as well as adults. Including surgery and chemical castration. Most doctors doing these atrocities require a go-ahead from a psychologist as a way of covering their asses in case it all goes sideways. Those psychologists doing this “counseling” and giving the ok, may well expect to become defendants in malpractice cases beginning fairly soon. As well they should.
Fake News - I DISTINCTLY heard my Public School Administrators telling us parents that the ONLY WAY to prevent suicide in little boys was to cut their dicks off. And since the people who administer and teach in the public schools in my small town are the Salt of the Earth (I even met one shopping at Walmart, once!), that must be the truth.
(besides, my kids aren’t worth the cost to me of private schools or home schooling as I have FAR BETTER things to do with my money)
The only reason why the trans-gender kids are killing themselves is because they are being bullied. Luckily Biden gave a speech about it and will fix the problem with new and stronger “hate speech” laws.
This is the lie that was sold to my wife’s family ~15 years ago after my sister-in-law married a guy who was hiding gender dysphoria. They were all convinced that if they didn’t go along with it and be supportive of his delusion that he’d go kill himself. As if mutilating himself was a solution that would cure him and make him feel better.
Maybe there is something else bothering these people? //sarcasm
Benjamin Ryan is a health & science reporter, and contributor at The New York Times, NBC News, and The Guardian, so I'll quote him here:
Study finds that the attempted-suicide rate among transgender women [men] who received a vaginoplasty in California was twice as high during the period after the surgery compared with the period before the surgery.
The investigators analyzed data on all 868 people who received a vaginoplasty and 357 people who received a phalloplasty in California from 2012-2018. There were an average of 2 years of data before and after surgery.
A total of 22% of the vaginoplasty group and 21% of the phalloplasty group had at least one ER or in-patient psych encounter during the study period, whether before or after surgery.
If there was a psych encounter prior to surgery, 34% of the vaginoplasty group and 27% of the phalloplasty group had a psych encounter after surgery.
Among those receiving a vaginoplasty, the rate of suicide attempts was twice as high after the surgery, at 3.3%, compared with before, at 1.5%.
The phalloplasty suicide-attempt rate was similar to the general population, while the vaginoplasty group's rate was more than twice as high as the general population. Also:
