"Today I am announcing that I will depart Congress at the end of next week," Buck said in a statement...His departure will cut the House Republican margin to 218-213...Buck is a member of the ultraconservative House Freedom Caucus, but he made a name for himself in Washington for frequently breaking with his party on major issues...Most recently, Buck broke with his party and was one of three Republicans who voted against the impeachment of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

I don’t know…I thought representatives were supposed to reflect their constituents and do what is right for the country.

But, I guess I am just old fashioned.

“Speaker Johnson says ‘didn’t know’ about fellow House GOPer Buck resigning, narrowing his majority”

https://justthenews.com/government/congress/speaker-johnson-says-he-didnt-know-about-colorado-rep-buck-resigning

“House Speaker Mike Johnson said that he didn’t know beforehand Tuesday that fellow Republican Rep. Ken Buck had resigned.

When Johnson was asked about Buck’s resignation and whether knew when it was coming, he responded, “I didn’t know,” according to Politico.

The Louisiana Republican also said he was surprised by the announcement.”

> Vacancy Committee???

Usually early Senate exits are replaced by their Governor, via appointments, at least until next regular Election Day. And early House exits are replaced by called special elections of some sort. Varies a little by state. Is this some doped up Colorado alternative?

“ I cannot understand why anyone would vote for Boebert.…”
*********************************************

Because she’s a SOLID, RELIABLE MAGA Republican. We need more like her…not less. IMHO, the REASON BUCK IS LEAVING EARLY is to sabotage Boebert and cause her difficulties. GLOBALIST Neocons and DemocRATS desperately want Representatives such as Boebert out. They have been increasing in number and gradually steering the Republican caucus toward a MAGA direction.

Needless to say, but I’ll say it anyway… BUCK IS SCUM

Our "special election" IS the "Vacancy Committee".

I'm one of a couple hundred on that committee.

Sorry, if you prefer some dopy, commie, governor chose your interim Rep.

Update!

The vacancy committee will select the GOP candidate for the "Special Election" which will be held at the same time as our June Primary.

The "Primary" will in fact BE the General Election for CD-4, which leaves the seat vacant for 3 months.

During that same Primary, we will also select the GOP candidate to run in November.

That ought to confuse most folks, but hope it benefits MY candidate Deb Flora!

Can't imagine voters selecting a different candidate for the interim than the General.

So, Boebert is at huge disadvantage.

As I wrote, I don't think replacement Reps are ever appointed by Governors, but replacement Senators normally are. Some states limit Senator replacement options to same party as former Senator or to be picked from a list of choices provided by prior party. If I'm reading between your lines correctly the "Vacancy Committee" is an arm of the local GOP, empowered to pick candidates when there is no time for the normal process, and the Democrats would pick their candidate by similar methods, although in this district GOP candidate is likely winner. But the election day is chosen by some elected statewide official (someplace I read claimed the Gov) whom I gather chose to have the general election for the remainder term between your pick and the Dems and any other picks, the same time as the previously scheduled primary elections for next full terms. Sounds like a normal process and yes the person running for both has some advantage in the latter over those just running for the latter.

Boebert certainly carries baggage, but if forced to chose I’d rather have her kind of baggage than Buck’s media loved baggage. If you can shoehorn in someone who’ll vote at least roughly as well who currently lacks her baggage, great, but recognize the left will create ‘baggage’ out of thin air for anyone not already so burdened. Good luck!
