President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday that Russia is ready to use nuclear weapons if its sovereignty or independence is threatened, issuing another blunt warning to the West just days ahead of an election in which he’s all but certain to secure another six-year term.
The Russian leader has repeatedly talked about his readiness to use nuclear weapons since invading Ukraine in February 2022. The most recent such threat came in his state-of-the-nation address last month, when he warned the West that deepening its involvement in the fighting in Ukraine would risk a nuclear war.
Asked in an interview with Russian state television released early Wednesday if he has ever considered using battlefield nuclear weapons in Ukraine, Putin responded that there has been no need for that. He also noted that he doesn’t think that the world is heading for a nuclear war, describing U.S. President Joe Biden as a veteran politician who fully understands possible dangers of escalation.

Personally, I’m getting really tired of Russia’s nuke threats.

From September, Russia’s teenagers will be taught that, in 2021, NATO and Ukraine placed “a huge number of Ukrainian troops and armoured vehicles were concentrated at the borders”.
It would’ve been an existential threat... If a single word of that were true.
But it’s a total reversal of the truth. Ukraine didn’t even have its border guards amassing at the border with Russia, let alone the army. And NATO weren’t in there at all. Russia had over 100,000 troops readying for an invasion before the Kremlin even posted an ultimatum to NATO.
This is the fundamental problem with the idea that Russia will only resort to nukes if its territorial integrity is violated. One minute that territory is the agreed pre 1997 Russian Federation footprint, the next it includes the entire buffer zone between East and West, which includes the Baltic free countries and several other smaller countries within the footprint of the Warsaw Pact.
Yesterday, Russian TV posited the idea of grabbing Gotland. No Russian TV pundit ever gets slapped down for basically arguing to steal land inside NATO borders. But the rare occasion you get a moderate calling that out, they get screamed at by Solovyov and told to shut up!
Bluntly, the old adage of knowing what Russia really thinks by listening to how it’s talking about being attacked by people who haven’t done anything yet, holds up.
So we can assume Putin’s military doctrine is now, whatever Russia decides is lawful, is lawful. Tomorrow, a NATO passing out parade deepinside NATO territory will be a big enough infringement of Russia’s independence for Putin to warm up a nuke.
I don’t disagree with your points, but I think you’d agree that its hard to win a war without fighters. The GOP just isn’t interested in fighting for us, and we don’t elect enough of the people who do. So there’s really not much stopping the Dem steamroller. They see weakness and exploit it.
I contend that if the GOP had convictions they were willing to fight for the Dems would not be as aggressive as they are. They push because they don’t get much, if any, resistance.
Those with the greatest will to win usually do.
So he's a Biden supporter.
wow man! my sovereignty is the only one that matters
Here’s an idea: Don’t threaten Russia’s national existence.
Would the US population tolerate a President who was not ready to use nukes to stop an existential threat?
Oh no Putin. You don’t want to make Biden mad.
[Putin and Obama/Biden are working together]
I don’t think I’d classify it as “together”.
[to usher in the Great Reset]
That may well be the outcome, though.
Hold on to your hats...
Remember, the winners write the history books.
Putin could go down as the man who restored the dream of global socialism after the collapse of the USSR.
Something is about to get real
Or so it seems...
