Being a whistleblower is tough. No matter that truth and principle may be your motive, you become an antagonist to your former employer and colleagues. You get slammed by many of them for being disloyal or grandstanding or trying to profit, all your faults are aired and new ones invented, and then, in most cases, you fail to have the impact that you intend. You suffer financially and lose peace of mind, and family and close friends often fall away or criticize you rather than endorse or share your burdens.
