Portugal’s Socialists conceded defeat in a parliamentary election on Sunday which saw the far-right emerge as the biggest winner. With nearly 99% of votes counted, the center-right AD coalition had secured 77 seats against 75 seats for the Socialists. “Everything indicates that the result won’t enable the Socialist Party to be the most voted party," Socialist leader Pedro Nuno Santos said. He congratulated the AD for their election victory. Far-right party Chega recorded the biggest jump in support compared with the 2022 election - it has already won 46 seats, almost quadrupling its current tally. This means the AD would be able to control parliament with the backing of Chega. Andre Ventura, who founded Chega in 2019, has grown the party from a one-lawmaker outfit into the third largest parliamentary force. He said Sunday that it’s clear AD and Chega have an outright majority and he should be allowed to negotiate a role in a government led by the center-right. AD’s leader Luis Montenegro has maintained an acrimonious relationship with Ventura and ruled out any agreement with the party. The early election was called after Socialist Prime Minister Antonio Costa quit in November amid a probe into alleged influence peddling.

I suppose it’s still possible for AD to cut Chega out and form a government with the Socialists.. they wouldn’t be the first center-right party to do such a thing..
What positions does Ventura hold that make him far right and at odds with the AD?
He opposes Portugal being overrun by moslem hordes. Obamatollah puppet Biden, will do what it takes to shut him out of government
We always read about these rightist governments being feted in Europe, yet nothing ever seems to change
Why don’t they cheat? Why give up so easily?
The “center right” party corresponds to our RINOs: give people something to vote for as an alternative to the Socialists, but won’t actually oppose the socialists and globalists in any meaningful way.
They are buddies with the socialists and hate the true right wing.
The Chega party opposes Third World immigration and wants to trim government employment and reduce welfare.
That makes them “far right” in Europe.

“That makes them “far right” in Europe.”
It’s even worse here.
Far Right?
New definition...
You support liberties guaranteed by the USA Bill of Rights.
- Nation protector
- Pro-citizen
- Pro-personal freedom
- Anti-government corruption
- Anti-national debt
“Anti-government corruption” is a much better description of the conservative position than just anti-government. We conservatives must do a better job of using the vocabulary that expresses what we want more clearly.
The left seems to dictate vocabulary, even changing a word or a definition when desired. We do not have to go along with them and use their words. My first choice would be to stop using the expression “mainstream media“. There are many other terms we could use such as “legacy media” or “propaganda media”. ABC, CBS, MSNBC, NYT, WAP,O, etc., are far left, not mainstream
I LOVE your term ‘propaganda media’. Succinct and accurate.
Thanks. I read the wiki blurb. Seems like a pretty sensible party to me. It doesn’t seem to be the older style of European far right party which tends to be nationalist but also socialist. These guys are more like American conservatives, where there’s a free market and limited government emphasis. Or maybe a comparison could be made with what Miele is doing in Argentina. This seems like a party with healthy ideas and I suspect the “far right” tag is probably mostly a slander in their case.
I agree
