Letitia James and/or others there who were being honored or doing the honoring made disparaging political remarks and/or anti-Trump statements.
But the firefighters in attendance aren't allowed to express, in response, their disapproval of those political remarks!
Rather, they are expected to just sit/stand there and give tacit approval.

The statue on the south side is a woman reading a book to her little child, who grows up to be a fireman.
There is still a memorial service at this monument every September 11, where hundreds of firefighters show up to honor the fallen ones of 2001. All the names are read and a bell rung for each one.
Many of the attendees are young. One wonders what they have been through.

I know a large number of firefighters. These are very independent people. I cannot imagine that they will let their fellow firefighters take any heat for speaking up.
I suspect also, that a good number of these FDNY are black.
In summary, this could very easily blow up in their faces if they go after these people.
Wouldn’t it be the coolest thing, if they all claim to be Spartacus?
If the union cared about the member, they would organize a strike against the state government, James in particular.
