The doctor said that there is a deficit of dopamine or dopamine signaling in the brain in ADD and ADHD.
Ritalin increases dopamine.
So does nicotine and other drugs, but it probably has to do with where in the brain dopamine neurotransmission is increased. That I do not know.
I had a prescription for Modafinil (for mild sleep apnea). If I took too much it made me prone to anger over the slightest irritations, such as feeling that my wife walking too slowly while we were grocery shopping.

You don’t know what the hell you are talking about. For people who actually have ADD, it is a very positive help for them.
It certainly helps me a great deal. I know a number of people who it helps a great deal. One guy makes over $700k/year and has a great life.
