I’ve thought about renting out my home while I do some traveling but because I live in NYS it’s become to risky.

It’s another way to rob people of wealth and investing in real estate. It has nothing to do with squatters and everything to do with keeping you (us) from making sound investments that will make us money.

It's risky to leave for even a short few days now. Hire a house sitter? Perhaps they will decide they now live there and "own" it and won't leave.
