Prosecutors in Sarasota opted against pressing charges against embattled former Florida Republican Party Chairman Christian Ziegler over accusations of video voyeurism.
Ultimately, the state attorney’s office in Sarasota concluded that there wasn’t enough evidence to charge him over allegations of illegally videotaping a woman who claimed he raped her without consent, per a memo obtained by The Post.
“Mr. Ziegler is relieved to be completely cleared of the false allegations and any criminal wrongdoing. We cooperated at every stage of the investigation and as difficult as it was, we remained quiet out of respect for the investigation,” his attorney Derek Byrd told The Post.

I don’t see that happening.
That is a question that should repeatedly asked. I go with the assumption that the internet is like standing in a supermarket checkout line. Eye catching headlines a plenty. Going beyond that requires effort and who has time for that?
I’ve read it now. I see Ziegler’s attorney wants us to award him some courtesy. The expression is to afford someone courtesy.
I don’t think he did anything illegal. I do think he’s politically compromised, at least as a Republican.
He was charged with rape, but then a video emerges suggesting it was consensual. So then he is accused of videotaping without permission, but the camera is in plain sight and now the purported victim can’t remember if she gave consent.
The guy is a dirt bag, but this hounding looks like lawfare.
Some may call him a dirt bag but others might call him prudently careful - the video proved he didn’t rape the accuser.
That seems a concise description.
This is one of the problems with two-party consent laws, that it also denies the ability to record proof of your side of the story when crimes are or are not committed.
Recording without permission seems like a lesser charge than being accused of rape, and the accuser can then be charged with making a false accusation.
