San Francisco passes law-and-order measures by large margins, including drug screening for welfare recipients

San Francisco voters passed a pair of law-and-order ballot measures on Tuesday night, including one that would require welfare recipients suspected of using drugs to undergo screenings to receive benefits.

It marks yet another rebuke of progressive policies in the famously liberal city, following the recall of far-left District Attorney Chesa Boudin in 2022.

The welfare requirement, called Proposition F, had 63 percent support as of Wednesday morning, according to the most recent election results online. Proposition E, which expanded some police surveillance powers and reined in some oversight, had support from 60 percent of voters. There are still votes to be counted but the measure's proponents declared victory, while left-wing detractors grumbled about the results, saying they would backfire and reverse progress.

I knew things were changing in San Francisco when Chesa Bodin was ousted along with three lefty school board members.

People paying exorbitant prices to live there are sick and tired of seeing their beautiful city trashed by politicians (that THEY voted for) - businesses closed, things locked up in stores, mentally ill and drug-addled homeless all over their streets.

Guess they got sick of it...Unfortunate that Scott Weiner was re-elected, he’s caused a lot a damage to this state.

“including drug screening for welfare recipients”

Well, that’s all fine and good but Florida did that and surprisingly enough it didn’t move the needle enough to justify the the expense.

Of course doing it in Cali may certainly reveal much different results.

Now comes the part where the insanely Woke city officeholders and bureaucrats refuse to enforce the will of the voters.

*************

A temporary rebuke most likely. The culture out there is what it is.

You kind have to wonder what these people want to progress toward.

I notice that in SF a very Liberal city that the general populace are taking their government into their own hands, doing things that their elected officials should obviously be doing.

This is what democracy looks like. This is majority rule.

In this case it will probably work out for the better.

But it also sets a dangerous precedent. Our forefathers warned against democracy for good reason.

Mob rule is ugly and easily degenerates into government by passions.

Passing these measures was the easy part. Now they must be implemented by the very people who made them necessary.

But, how long before the court steps in and puts an end to this vote? I agree SF IMHO is the most beautiful city in the US and it is sad to see what has happened there when the Progressive brain was put on display.

San Francisco voters really want to save their city, but they’re not in charge. It’s way too late.

Instead of implementing it, these Democrat/Communists will judge-shop to declare the measure unconstitutional or mean-spirited,, a new classification of judicial finding.

the left claim that addiction is a sickness/illness, and will scream about the right not wanting to help treat the illness and will cause the addicted tO “turn to crime to support their illness” by cutting off their source of income.

Expect great howling and gnashing of teeth

I be.eive Maine did this under Lepage if I recall correctly?

I think you are substantially correct. 8 years of Obama and 4 years of Biden have installed countless thousands of lefties in the bureaucracies.

They should all be fired and replaced by people that can pass a BASIC Civics course. Like, Questions 1-3 of 100: 1. Who is George Washington? 2. What happened on Omaha Beach? 3. Who is/was Abraham Lincoln?

No score on test. It is pass fail. To pass, you must get 90 out of 100 answers correct. NO MULTIPLE CHOICE GUESS QUESTIONS!

Correct. Too little, too late - no refunds.

This is an attempt by financial interests to try to pump up property values before unloading them.
