It's understandable considering the time, effort and cost in becoming a doctor. It takes a special kind of person to pursue that profession.

With that being said, my nephew is a thoracic surgeon and here's the route he had to take to become one:

Four years college

Four years medical school

Five years general surgery training

Two year fellowship in thoracic surgery before he finally was hired by a local hospital chain.

That's 15 years of schooling.....
