Having someone appointed to handle your finances does not mean you’ve been adjudicated as mentally incompetent.

True: Every person in this nation’s military is well trained in weapons use from M-16’s to a sidearm. Financial MGMT. has zip to do with weapons. Heck, we kept our CAR 15’s in MACVSOG on full auto all the time. Yes, we used the safety.

Exactly. I am an attorney, and I have clients who were victimized by this insane rule. The assumption (apparently not subject to rebuttal) has been that if you sign a power of attorney for your financial affairs, you’re “mentally incompetent.” That’s pure hogwash - people sign POAs for a wide variety of reasons...and, in fact, if you actually ARE mentally incompetent, you CANNOT validly sign a POA (or any other legal document, for that matter).

The whole rule was set up to disarm as many members as possible of one of the most politically-conservative groups of people in the country, and should have been ruled unconstititutional long ago.
