Desperate for money and men, Ukraine is using violent press gangs to snatch soldiers from the streets

The war in Ukraine has always seemed a strange blend of the contemporary and the historic. During my visits to various fronts, I have watched soldiers livestream drone battles on flat screens, explain to me how AI is helping them better target the enemy, and I have spent time in trenches that wouldn’t look out of place in World War I.

I was reminded of this when a Ukrainian friend recently told me about the growing problem of press gangs there.

Not too long ago, he and some friends got off at Kyiv train station and were immediately swarmed by a mob of masked soldiers checking the documents of all military-aged males and hauling off those without the necessary exemptions (these include being unfit to serve on health grounds, those in certain types of study, and those who have lost family members during military service) to various army facilities.

Many will almost certainly end up on the front, unwilling and undertrained.

There’s no advantage in fighting against Russia it’s madness that we send even a dime.

—National cohesiveness
—Lack of a rebellious generational counterculture

The US while in vietnam had none of those resources, so they lost in spite of our larger size and superior military & industrial resources

Russia? It's just Putin. Even though Russia is a dictatorship. It'll tough for Russia to prevail in a long war. Ukraine just needs to hold out. That's what the Colonies did with Great Britain.

Things I’ve noticed in ye olde dispatches:
1. Ukrainian sniper with the callsign ‘Grandpa.’
2. Many videos of Ukrainian infantry casualties and frontline action where the infantry looked as old (and less fit) than my middle-aged self.
3. Video of young women on front-line positions and in the basement of the coke plant just before it fell.

At least I haven’t seen middle-aged women in infantry kit yet. I can’t say I’ve seen much of young men that you’d typically expect to see in videos from the Ukrainian side in the past year. Methinks the claim of Z that they’ve only suffered 31K KIA is off a decimal place or more.

With modern weapons and guerrilla tactics, NOBODY is conquering a determined defender on their home turf if the locals do not accept it. This lesson has already been learned in numerous wars that bankrupted the failed conqueror. Including Russia getting their ass kicked in Afganistan.

War is waste of everything. You conquer these days with information, entertainment and politics. Russia is just having a hissyfit because they know they are losing the real battle to the West.

The fact is nobody with free choice actually ever wanted to live in Russia and move out the first chance they get. This is despite total state control of the media and internet censorship.

Even the most elite Russians send their children to the USA and Europe. Why? Because even their nearly limitless money cannot buy true freedom/security in Russia. Russia's temper tantrum war and obvious murders of their poltitical enemies is only putting the final nails in their coffin.

Thank you for recalling. The names, Biden, Pelosi, Kerry and Rommey, echo through all the losses on all sides over these last years.

While on FR comments rage back and forth, what I am regularly reminded of are these names and the AMERICAN link to all the corruption which has been fundamental to all. It is assured there are more corrupt American and European names which should be known as well as those corrupt Democrats and RINOs above.
