Ukraine needs $3 bln in financial aid per month to survive the war in 2024. This was shared by the Ukrainian Finance Minister. Till now, Ukraine has received more than $73 billion in financial aid from its western partners but now the inflow of funds and weapons has slowed down.

What are Ukraine's options? Are European nations in danger as Russia gains ground in Ukraine? Watch WION's Shivan Chanana have an in-depth discussion with Dr. Gilbert Doctorow, international affairs analyst, author, and historian from Brussels.

I don’t imagine these territories will object too strongly.

With the lone exception of Crimea, all those provinces have Ukrainian majorities. Do not think that they will take Russian domination likely. If Russia were able to militarily occupy those areas this conflict will continue. Such an expansion of Russia might please Putin and the Russian nationalists, but it would not be in the long term benefit of Russia.

I will remind you Lughansk and Donetsk territories had voted for their Independence FROM Ukraine years ago…then Ukro Nazis started bombing them- since 2014.

Not so. They voted, even in a referendum controlled by the Russians, for autonomy within a unified Ukraine, not independence or union with Russia. That this is constantly portrayed as a vote for independence is a result of Russian propaganda.

As for the shelling, it occurred on both sides and, on both sides, was directed at military forces. That there were so many (unintended) civilian casualties, again on both sides, was the result of the use of unguided Grad missiles. The overwhelming number of civilian casualties, on both sides, was in the first two years of the conflict. There was a drastic falling off afterwards. In the years immediately prior to Russia's 2022 invasion, as reported by the pro-Russian regimes themselves, civilian casualties were mainly due to abandoned mines and unexploded artillery rounds.

The charges that the Ukrainians were deliberately and constantly targeting the ethnic Russian population is a blood libel. This has been pointed out so many times that it is difficult to believe that the claim is now being made in good faith.

Russia doesn’t all of Ukraine. It would gladly let Poland, Hungary and Romania have pieces of it that have historic ties to those countries.

Europe’s existing commitments of aid should handle this just fine well into 2025.

Oh, come on. Even Kharkiv as a whole was not ethnically majority Russian, not even when the last Soviet census was done. Look it up.

Protests? Mean nothing. None of those “protest” provinces were pro-Russian after 2014.

Luhansk, Donetsk, and Crimea, you might have a rather weak point. But on that basis we should return a couple states to Mexico.

The best option would be to seek a cease fire and negotiate trying to save as much as possible. I wouldn’t be surprised if Russia wouldn’t be satisfied with territory east of the Dnieper River, guarantee of a neutral Ukraine, and changing the Ukrainian constitution so as to outlaw the Nazi movement.

1) So far Europe has committed eu144 billion to Ukraine. (This figure may be slightly low / dated, as the figure the Ukraine Support Tracker gives for the US is also slightly low.) US commitments of aid as of 2/23/2024 actually amount to $74.3 billion (eu$68.7 billion).

2) Protection of US borders is not so much a matter of resources or money, it is a matter of POLICY. It doesn’t matter what Congress passes until we get a hardnose on immigration like like Trump as Pres., best with a Congress that will back him up. Whatever passes pre-2025, if Biden doesn’t like it he will subvert it. There’s no chance of convicting him if impeached, and even if convicted, then we have...

This makes the whole issue of “the border 1st”, at least time-wise, a bunch of grandstanding nonsense.

3) The majority of the weapons money for Ukraine goes to replenish US stocks with newer and often better weapons and munitions. (Some items are direct replacements, like new Excalibur shells for older ones.)

4) “Common sense” would tell you that ANY time gov’t money is handed out, at least 10% goes to waste and corruption. Usually the waste part is a lot worse than that. Now, rather than condemning all Ukies to Russian rule or worse, I’d say randomly select Ukie soldiers too badly wounded to return to fighting, and give them the resources to hunt down miscreants, who can then be turned over to squads of randomly selected Ukie soldiers that get rotated out of the front lines.

Another approach would be to simply supply only weapons, mostly larger systems very unlikely to leave Ukraine (and easily tracked), training, etc., and perhaps in this next go-round ~$2 billion in actual humanitarian supplies and materials. No money - we leave that to the Euros.

Note that old weapons that get replaced by newer weapons is by far the biggest chunk of support the US has sent to Ukraine.

You are pretty cavalier with giving away another people’s land and condemning half of them to living under the domination of a foreign power. Don’t think that such a Russian victory would end this. If anything, this war has united the Ukrainians in their national identity. After centuries of rule under foreign rulers, they will not submit peacefully again to Russian domination. All Russia would have won would be a continuing bloody insurgency. For their own sake, the Russians need to go home.

And I would remind you polling says a LOT of those minds changed in 2014, and even more through 2022. Who knows now - a lot of the ethnic and pro-Ukrainians have fled. But, your argument still makes no sense, unless you are going to argue that, say, New Mexico should be free to secede and join Mexico.

The “Ukro Nazis” nonsense has been debunked so many times I’m not even going to bother with it further. If you wish to continue looking like an idiot, go ahead.

Bye.

Ukraines debt to prior to GDP is less than half ours. They can sell access to resources, commodities, future resorces at a reduced cost. But noooooo they want everyone to gift them billions/trillion in graft. No one is willing to make their graft over 10-20 years.
