The uniparty does not want Trump to go to the Republican Party Convention unopposed.

It’s binary - either he’s opposed or he’s unopposed. It doesn’t matter whether the opposition from Haley is significant or not - just the fact of opposition sends the message that there are factions - that the winner needs to compromise and build a coalition - it can steal some thunder from the winner.

This is why incumbents have such a huge advantage - they are usually running unopposed within their party. Biden would normally have this advantage of incumbency - but he’s so far past his sell-by date nobody can even imagine him serving a second term:

If Haley drops out now, the Uniparty knows it’s all over for them - Trump not only wins, but MAGA wins - and being unopposed, he has total control over the Republican Party platform, cabinet picks and campaign messages & strategies.
