Google Pauses Ultra-Woke Gemini AI Image Generator Following ‘Inaccuracies’ in Historical Photos

Google announced it is pausing its ultra-woke Gemini AI image generator, saying the tool has created historical photos with “inaccuracies.”

“We’re already working to address recent issues with Gemini’s image generation feature. While we do this, we’re going to pause the image generation of people and will re-release an improved version soon,” Google said in a Thursday X/Twitter post.

The tech giant’s statement was an update from its Wednesday announcement, which was, “We’re aware that Gemini is offering inaccuracies in some historical image generation depictions.”

I'm guessing the level of outrageous excess was not planned for. That they gave it
something like a general directive not to be "all white" without thinking through
that the AI wouldn't have any judgement at all.

Try using Google image search for the term "white American inventors" and you will be shocked. Here is an example:

Absolutely purposeful. It was fun trying to get it to get it to make any pics with white people. I typed in “Make a picture of Irish Clog Dancers” While it was “thinking” it spelled out “East Asian woman looking happy while dancing” and then spit out an image of an Indian looking woman in Irish clothes. And the reply said “I can not make images based on race or physical characteristics” Then I typed “You just made an imagine of “east asian” woman.” Then it said, “You are right, thank you for pointing out inconsistencies. etc etc.”

Other fun tests. “Make a picture of someone who doesn’t vote for Joe Biden”
“Make a picture of a Donald Trump supporter”
“Make a picture of the most dangerous terrorist to America”
“Make a picture of an albino African”
“Make a picture of a farm worker”

The farm worker was the funniest. It showed Indian women in Saris picking oranges.

Google REALLY does not want to make any pictures of white people in any capacity.

Yep, I’ve been asking for different pictures and the majority that it displays POC. I just asked for a picture of a Texas cotton farmer, it showed me a picture of cotton, so I rephrased it to show me a Texas farmer of cotton, it showed me a POC in center frame and a non-POC off to the side.

Since when did folks become so picky about the wording for their ethnicity? I swear, people of color, colored people, non white people et al. If it’s a big deal just say the actual color that describes them best. White, black, brown etc. I have yet in 70 plus years to come across a red or yellow human. Maybe just get to actual terns Asian, african, european etc. I’m used to being described as the old guy sitting over there. Works for me.
