There are a whole lot of underwear skidmarks in the West that need to be mistaken for baby Harp seals by Canadian sealers.

I don't think the Russians even bothered taking the Leopard IIs back to the Ural mountains for reverse engineering.

It would be a stretch for the Russians to want the Leotard II tanks.

When one's path to wealth is through the public purse, then the public purse is nothing more than a feed trough for the pigs.

In much of the world, a permanent political class has arisen, and thinks itself the new aristocracy. Time to topple much, with "liberty for all" as the unambiguous goal.

You were given a link to the PDF, "Agreement on security cooperation and long-term support between the Federal Republic of Germany and Ukraine," as if that document was a reply to a discussion. But reading through the agreement proves otherwise.

From page 5, "Germany will continue to provide long-term support to Ukraine’s overall energy sector with a special focus on green energy transition"

And, "The Participants will work to accelerate both short-term commitments and long-term economy-wide net zero goals" And, my favorite, "Germany will work with Ukraine to identify sources of funding for grant programmes"

Yup. The Scholz government will look around for "source of funding."

Further, page 6, "Germany will continue to support recovery and reconstruction with the aim of supporting the use of regenerative materials and renewable energy sources, applying safe and sustainable climate-neutral technologies and protecting the natural resources and the vulnerable environment of Ukraine."

And then, page 7, "Germany will persevere to support existing international and European frameworks and institutions in their endeavours to continue providing regular and predictable financial support to Ukraine."

So the Scholz-Habeck government will look around for other countries to pay and pay more for the Zelensky government.

When the Scholz-Habeck coalition fails, as it will, and as the Zelensky government withers, this pabulum will be piles of words of net-zero, climate-change, green and "find some grants from somewhere."

Saving the BEST for last, page 10, "This Agreement may be terminated by either Participant at any time."

Yup. "This Agreement may be terminated by either Participant at any time."

One could indeed "make a thread about German tanks and find a German to ask." But the "agreement" which can be terminated by either participant says quite a lot.

And, though in English, it's that "German" who says all of the above in writing.

Zelensky was furious at the Munich conference. Not only did he lose Avdeyevka while he was there, but he received nothing of substance from the Germans, just the usual blah, blah, blah and pat on the back.

Germany is a missile lob away from Ukraine. If the Germans don't care about Ukraine, then why the hell should I, on the other side of world?

We were legal residents in Germany for decades, before my bride's retirement and return to the states. As she says, "home."

We still have many friends in Germany, as throughout much of northern Europe. My take on things is surely colored by their views, as well as my reading of non-English news to add to info.

Your question is so apt. "...why the hell should I, on the other side of world?" While the "governments" and "media" spin, many Europeans as well as many Americans ask that very question. The noise in the media, as with some here on FR, tries to make this fiasco into what is proving itself to have been a "strategic" fiasco.

Policeman to the world, while owing more than $34 trillion USD, seems like one stupid policy to pursue. But I guarantee that there are plenty of German families NOT wanting their sons and daughters to serve in that military in this time, in like manner as our homegrown "recruitment" problems. "Woke" and "Pride" and "trans" and "net zero" are not flags under which to fight.

And that agreement "signed, in Berlin on 16 February 2024" is a joke. Terminated by either party? Sounds like the party is close to being over.
