Hundreds of Dade Phelan supporters and others gathered in the Gay and Bill Scott hangar at Jack Brooks Airport Thursday night for a campaign rally that featured former Governor Rick Perry, who’s endorsing Phelan and his leadership as Speaker of the House in the upcoming election.
A number of officials throughout the District 21 tri-county area attended, including some from across party lines, like Port Arthur Mayor Thurman Bartie.
While the crowd was clearly there to show their support for Phelan and hear his comments on the upcoming race, the fierce ads from the opposition and other more personal attacks, they got a bonus in meeting and hearing from Perry at the rally.

That is the real story here. Perry is a RINO. Guess he is a bushbot then. Never knew. Sad. We are done, him and me.
During the 2016 GOP primary, Perry called Trump a cancer to the party. Later on when Trump won, he was gracious enough to appoint Perry to be his Secretary of Energy.
This just shows how magnanimous Trump is and how treacherous Perry is.

He convinced a few of his RINO buddies to team up with all the Texas House Democrats (in the Texas legislature) and elect him to be the House speaker. Then he appointed Democrats to key positions of Chairman of powerful committees.
Conservative priorities got sidelined and Democrats got most of what they wanted, in a majority Republican legislature.
Rick is also a former Democrat.

Actually, the Bushes were said to look down their arrogant noses at Perry, but he may have never known this. Phelan is worse than Cornyn.
Rick Perry is 74 years old-way past the sell by date. So what does this buy him? Doing the right thing? Making a statement?
His legacy-took a lot of hits with people. Maybe he just doesn’t care anymore.

Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan has been forced into a runoff for the Republican nomination in his East Texas district by challenger David Covey, highlighting a fierce campaign by state Attorney General Ken Paxton to oust dozens of GOP incumbents who sought his impeachment last year.
Phelan advanced to a May 28 runoff against Covey, an oil and gas consultant and party activist endorsed by Paxton and former President Donald Trump. Neither candidate could win a majority for victory outright in a race that included retired hairdresser Alicia Davis.
