Rep. Adam Schiff (R-Calif.) has become the first major candidate in the California Senate race to release a climate plan, calling for a federal wildfire insurance program and an end to federal fossil fuel subsidies.
The plan, first reported by Politico, calls for an end to subsidies for oil and gas production, which the Schiff campaign says would result in another $13 billion in tax revenue over the next decade. Schiff also called for the point-of-sale electric vehicle tax credit to be required by dealerships, as opposed to the voluntary participation under the current tax credit.
Schiff’s proposal would additionally require a federal insurance program for wildfires, which have devastated the western U.S. in general and California in particular. Golden State homeowners have seen insurance rates increase dramatically due to fires, while last year multiple insurers announced they would limit or halt new policies in the state.

he wants us california citizens to pay for the damage his and his buddies and econatzis are responsible for , i bet he probably profits from in some way.
Uh, $13 billion over a decade? Owwwwwww. FIDIOT!
When it comes to “Climate” the operative phrase is “Follow The Money”.
Brilliant campaign! Nothing anyone with more than two working brain cells cares about.
If you’re going to end fossil fuel subsidies how about also ending solar and wind subsidies and make it a level playing field.
1. What “subsidies” for fossil fuels is he referring to.
2. The majority of states do not have a giant problem with wildfires. That is a problem for the states where whildfires are a big problem and not a federal issue beyond federal management of federal lands (which by the way should be drastically reduced).
3. All state and federal tax incentives and subsidies for electric vehicles need to be ended. They will never be cost effective alternatives until those incentives are removed and EV makers have to compete without them.
I’ve clicked on a half a dozen links and can’t find any specifics about Schiff’s plan to raise $13 billion (over ten years) by “eliminating fossil fuel subsidies.”
What is he considering a fossil fuel subsidy? Any tax rate under 100 percent?
The old chestnut used to be the expensing of intangible drilling costs. I never could figure out what the useful economic life of a dry hole was supposed to be, but I do understand why enviros opposed expensing. Their goal has always been sabotage. So what is Schiff proposing now?
There it is.
Al Gore winks
Rep. Adam Schiff (R-Calif.)
Huh?
Schiffty is doing a smart thing — going hard after Garvey to elevate him into the runoff and box out Lee and Porker.
