For many months, President Biden has been rallying global leaders to provide more military aid to Ukraine and pressing Congress to pass a multibillion-dollar aid package to help the country beat back Russian aggression. Former President Donald J. Trump has been undermining that effort, pressing Republicans to thwart it.
But on Wednesday, Mr. Trump tried to flip the script, suggesting that he would do more to protect Ukraine than Mr. Biden, who he said would effectively cede Ukraine as a gift to President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia.
Speaking at a campaign event in North Charleston, S.C., Mr. Trump said that, under a Biden presidency, Mr. Putin is “going to be given everything he wants, including Ukraine. That’s a gift. He’s got a gift.”
Then Mr. Trump — who often positively invokes Mr. Putin as an authoritarian strongman, and who acknowledged in his speech that they got along — doubled down, saying that Mr. Biden “is going to give” Ukraine to Mr. Putin.
Mr. Biden has repeatedly vowed to help Ukraine defend itself for “as long as it takes,” pledging that “our commitment to Ukraine will not weaken.” Mr. Trump, by contrast, has previously said that he would consider letting Russia “take over” parts of Ukraine in a negotiated deal to end the war.
A day earlier, the Senate, in a bipartisan vote, approved an additional $60.1 billion in assistance to Kyiv to help it fight Russia’s invasion, part of a long-debated foreign aid package for Ukraine and Israel.

When Trump was President, oil was cheap, and Russia didn’t invade.
Trump is sending a message. The message is that when he is POTUS the full ability of the United States to support Ukraine in weapons will be available. This is a message to Putin that negotiations begin the minute he enters office. The Ukrainian part is easy, if they don’t cooperate they get nothing and the collapse.
This is how you end a war. This is a war that is stupid, and is getting people killed. No one is getting security from this war. Obama shouldn’t have played coup games in 2014 with the CIA, and Putin shouldn’t have invaded. The democrats have been money laundering and profiteering for a decade on the backs of Russians, Ukrainians, and US taxpayers. I agree with Trump, this needs to end for the people, and nobody is going to negotiate out of good will.

Biden has been calling for a combination of more aid to Ukraine and Israel and Taiwan (which enjoy large bipartisan support) IN COMBINATION WITH more funding for refugees (which Republicans in both houses oppose).
Republicans have been offering to support more aid to Ukraine and Israel and Taiwan IN COMBINATION WITH enforcing current law regarding our country’s borders.
It looks like aid to Ukraine and Israel and Taiwan has been detached from border issues by the Senate and we’ll see what the House decides to do with it.
To be clear, neither Republicans nor Democrats are unanimous in what I described. Some Republicans (and a lot of Putinbots on this site) are isolationists, as opposed to America First. Some Democrats are pro-Palestine and oppose aid to Israel.
DON’T LET DEMOCRATS TELL YOU WHAT IS AND HAS BEEN THE REPUBLICAN POSITION.
Republicans are America First and believe in Peace Through Strength. Republicans advocated lethal aid to Ukraine while Obama was President (when Obama would only send MREs to Ukraine). Donald Trump sent lethal aid to Ukraine, such as anti-tank missiles, when he was President.
There should be no doubt that Russia would not have invaded Ukraine if Donald Trump had been re-elected. Putin invaded Ukraine while Obama was President and he invaded Ukraine a second time when Biden became President. Putin smells weakness and the Democrats are weak.

It points out that Trump is a deal-maker. This was his strength as a business man, and it was why he was able to broker peace between Israel and many of the Sunni Arab countries, and also something of peace between Kosovo and Serbia.
And what has Biden done? With Biden we have wars breaking out all over the world. Not only that, but crime, homelessness, filth and anarchy in our country, in Democrat-infested cities.
Republicans aren’t anarchists and we aren’t authoritarians either. We’re for limited government, under the Constitution, that is strong enough to protect us from our enemies foreign and domestic. We are not naive about evil. The Democrats, on the other hand, are on both sides of us, they’re both anarchists and authoritarians, and the fundamental reason is that deny evil.

Trump wrote the book on the Art of the Deal. By the time he takes office, Russia will be scraping the bottom of the barrel of their military stocks, and in a serious economic and financial situation - highly vulnerable to pressure.
The USA alone, but especially in conjunction with our Allies, will have (always has had) the capability to massively overwhelm Russian firepower in Ukraine, if we have the intent. There is no way that Russia could withstand a quadrupling of Western military aid to Ukraine.
Russia’s only hope in Ukraine, is for the West to abandon its support, and Trump knows that he holds the Trump card - full support, like the Berlin airlift, and accelerating the Defense Industrial Base. He can dictate terms from a position of strength.
