The U.S. believes Russia wants to put a nuclear weapon in space, according to reports sparked by a top Republican warning about a 'serious national security threat'.
House Intel Chair Rep. Mike Turner of Ohio said members of Congress had been made aware of the threat which is reported to be related to Russia and its threat from space - but wouldn't go into details.
It later emerged that it was related to Moscow's plan to put a nuclear weapon into space to target and destroy satellites the world depends on, ABC News reported.
Turner asked the president to declassify the information so lawmakers could discuss the ramifications in the ominous warning that sparked a response from the White House and furious speculation.
Moscow has already shown how it can be lethal from space by testing a hit-to-kill anti-satellite missile in 2021.
Russia smashed a defunct spy satellite launched in 1982 into 1,500 pieces of debris in the strike and sparked fury around the world.
Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo., was one of the first lawmakers to view the documents in the SCIF on Wednesday afternoon.
He told reporters that the threat is 'not an immediate crisis but certainly something we have to be very serious about.'
National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said Wednesday he was 'surprised' Turner came publicly about the threat related to a 'destabilizing foreign military capability.'
'That's been on the books. So I am a bit surprised that Congressman Turner came out publicly today in advance of a meeting on the books for me to go sit with him alongside our intelligence and defense professionals tomorrow,

Brandon ups the propaganda to Gale Force 10.
Cue more creepy laser eyes on the old fart.
The time to shoot down a missile is when it is going “ballistic”, meaning when the rocket engines shut off and it starts to come back to earth. They are going too fast after they have started their path downward.
SDI was planning to fire stuff at the missiles on the way up.
Star Wars wasn’t putting nukes in space. The closest thing to the original Star Wars plan is the Iron Dome system.
I see the showdowns, slowdowns, lost and found, turn arounds The boys in the military shirts I keep my eyes on the prize, on the long fallen skies And I don't let my friends get hurt All you back room schemers, small trip dreamers Better find something new to say 'Cause you're the same old story It's the same old crime And you got some heavy dues to pay
Seriously? This is the big threat? I would be shocked if Russia didn’t have nukes in orbit 40 years ago.
I thought the threat was the tens or hundreds of thousands of military aged men from around the globe settling in our country awaiting orders.

It’s not a threat to the Biden Administration. If you watch the video at the following link, Biden wouldn’t even talk to the National Sheriffs Association or to the Police Chiefs so they could express their concerns about the border. Chris Wray simply told them to be aware of red flags, but the police and Sheriffs are on their own to deal with any terrorism.

you need a nuclear weapon to take out a satellite?
how big is the satellite?
Goldeneye.
Think about it. You can’t use a nuclear weapon to take down more than one satellite. And what sense would that make? Plenty of other ways to do that. We are probably talking about a nuclear power supply here. Which the US has used and plans to use in the future.
People are so gullible that the Media can just put in some trigger words and rile people up because people don’t stop and try to make sense of it.
This is about scaring people and then pushing more funding to Ukraine. Either that or they want to find support to go to war with Russia.
Laser will do, as long as the satellite is any color except blue
Gee, Now I’m really worried!! What if the Russian space nuke somehow runs into the ones the USA has had up there for years? Talk about your big bangs.
And surely the Chinese are working on it too, if THEY don’t have it already .
Russia could have done that decades ago if they wanted.
“Star Wars wasn’t putting nukes in space”
OK—but the idea was to shoot down missiles any way you can—from wherever you can.
If nukes were the best choice then they would have used them.
The notion that “nukes in space” is a new horrible threat is absurd on its face.
The technology is old—it is just a question of whether it was useful or not.
If I am not wrong
The United States had detonated a nuclear weapon in space in 1962
So we could also.
Google starfish prime , not Amazon prime 😂
I’d bet they already have at least one up there.
The Soviets broke every treaty they ever signed. Why not that one too?
L
Space Force to the rescue!
There are probably five countries who already have nukes in space—and have had them for decades.
This is a total joke—the Space Treaties have been used as toilet paper—by everybody.
In the 1960s and ‘70s that was a fear. I saw a pamphlet in a Pentecostal church urging prayer to avoid it and preparation to survive it. I guess the prayer worked!
I’m a space cowboy 🤠
Bet you weren’t ready for that
I need a gold 75 and 76 Pontiac Firebird
Some people call me “Maurice”.
