He made the announcement on Monday.
Former President Donald Trump has endorsed Michael Whatley as Republican National Committee chair and his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, as co-chair.
The news comes as Ronna McDaniel, the current chair of the Republican National Committee, and Trump have discussed the possibility of her resigning, according to multiple people familiar with their conversation.
However, the RNC issued its own statement following Trump’s endorsement of new party leadership with a statement that Chairwoman McDaniel would not step down from her post or announce future plans until after the South Carolina GOP primary on Feb. 24.

Prefer Lara as chair and Michael as co-chair.
I think she’d do a pretty damn good job..my first choice was Scott Pressler, honestly that young man busts his ass for the GOP and gets nothing in return..he should be RNC chair
Ronna McRomney is still “discussing” the “possibility” ? I thought she was out the door and the door smacked her bottom on her way out.
Hoo boy. The left is going to go nuts. I like it.
Know nothing about Whatley, but I’m always like a cat in room full of rocking chairs when Trump picks someone.
By the way, anyone laying odds on how fast Ronna runs to CNN and MSNBC to bash Trump and Republicans once she’s gone? You know, like Michael Steele.
Co-chair is not a good way to go.
So long as it’s not Javanka I can like it.
After destroying his last administration with his bonehead picks, surely he has learned.
Lara is smart and obviously Trump trusts her. Thats pretty important.
I don't know anything about Whatley.
Michael Whatley
NCGOP
Originally from Watauga County, North Carolina, Michael Whatley serves as the Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party and the General Counsel for the Republican National Committee.
Prior to his service with the Republican Party, Chairman Whatley served as a federal law clerk, senior official in the George W. Bush Administration and as the Chief of Staff for US Senator Elizabeth Dole, R-NC. He also served as a Senior Advisor to the Bush-Cheney Campaign, Florida Recount and Transition Teams, as well as the Trump-Pence Campaign and Transition Teams.
Whatley earned a History degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Masters in Religion from Wake Forest University before graduating from the University of Notre Dame with both a law degree and Masters in Theology.
Color me, not impressed but hopeful.
With a bio like his, you are “not impressed?”
Why?
“Ronna McRomney is still “discussing” the “possibility” ?”
Ronna needs another week or two to completely bankrupt the RNC. Wasn’t that what Mitt specialized in: taking over a company and stripping it of its assets?

MSNBC saying Biden is FDR because of that polio wheelchair thing. Both handicapped. Both phenomenal. 🙄
Nope
Like many of Trump's picks, he's an old Bush/Cheney guy.
Gonna drain that swamp!
I have thought this sort of thing likely.
No Washington GOP figure can be appointed to anything. They are all Swamp.
The only hope of finding figures who are not conspiring with the GOPe to hurt him is to select family. He has no choice.
Agreed. Can’t Trump recognize and endorse a non-family member he can trust?
CNN has unearthed(lol!) video that shows Watley was an "election denier".
Sounds like a positive to me.
