Trump was not a political figure when he and Ivana split. We also don’t know the personal details of how well things were going in his marriage. Nikki is, and has been, a political figure during her dalliances.
Maybe there are problems in their marriage that Trump knows about, like her prior cheating.

I get to tell an old story....
In the good old days I worked on a congressional campaign for the Republican candidate challenging the incumbent lefty—this guy:

We were way behind in the polls in what should have been a close district—our fault—we had run a mediocre campaign.
It is time for the “big meeting”.
Do we drop the “bomb” or not?
Our opposition research had strong documentation that the Congressmen had been having sexual relations with teenage boys—including Congressional staff.
Do we go there or not?
Every staffer (including me) said “go for it—nothing to lose—scorched earth”.
The candidate—a devout Catholic and a prominent citizen in the community—said no. This was “dirty politics”.
So—we got clobbered.

*shrug* Trump’s gonna Trump. Perhaps, as some are saying, he knows more than we do.

Not as if there’s any alternative out there.
I remember that name and the controversy now that you brought it up.
I didn’t pay as close attention to politics back then because I was raising 3 boys.
But I remember his name being mentioned along with Barney Frank some years later.

You don’t have to be polite, but you need to be smart.
Smart enough not to splash yourself with gasoline when you are trying to smoke out an opponent.
Trump probably knows something we don’t know that is going to come out. He is setting the stage.
That was why I brought up the Studds example.
No matter how much gasoline we used we still would have understated how bad the guy was....
