Ocean system that moves heat gets closer to collapse, which could cause weather chaos, study says

An abrupt shutdown of Atlantic Ocean currents that could put large parts of Europe in a deep freeze is looking a bit more likely and closer than before as a new complex computer simulation finds a "cliff-like" tipping point looming in the future.

A long-worried nightmare scenario, triggered by Greenland's ice sheet melting from global warming, still is at least decades away if not longer, but maybe not the centuries that it once seemed, a new study in Friday's Science Advances finds. The study, the first to use complex simulations and include multiple factors, uses a key measurement to track the strength of vital overall ocean circulation, which is slowing.

A collapse of the current—called the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation or AMOC—would change weather worldwide because it means a shutdown of one of key the climate and ocean forces of the planet. It would plunge northwestern European temperatures by 9 to 27 degrees (5 to 15 degrees Celsius) over the decades, extend Arctic ice much farther south, turn up the heat even more in the Southern Hemisphere, change global rainfall patterns and disrupt the Amazon, the study said. Other scientists said it would be a catastrophe that could cause worldwide food and water shortages.

All you have to do is put “…and how it affects global climate change.” Onto your “study” and you’ll get your grant. It’s how it works.

I have yet to receive a good explanation of the Medieval Warm Period. That occurred centuries before the internal combustion engine.

Peeking behind curtains, metaphorically, phys.org is most interesting. It is and it isn't "phys.org," as one peeks behind their curtains.

"Help" and "FAQ" and "About" and "Contact" at the bottom banner all point to another domain -- sciencex.com. And their "account" is from "scienceex" as well.

A whois query states that phys.org is a GoDaddy domain, registered 26 April 2002, and that domain specifically uses Domains By Proxy, LLC, in Arizona, to suppress further information about phys.org.

"sciencex.com" as the operator of "phys.org" is also a GoDaddy domain, registered 8 August 2001, so BEFORE the phys.org registration. Sciencex is also privacy protected, so further "curtains" are pulled away by other means.

But "sciencex" leads by virtue of its European location and under their laws to info:

Science X is wholly owned by Omicron Limited, headquartered in Douglas, Isle Of Man, British Isles.
Omicron Limited
36 Hope Street, Douglas
IM1 1AR, Isle of Man

So who is Omicron Limited?

"OMICRON LIMITED -- Company number 02957501
Registered office address -- Three Horseshoe Inn, Trecastle, Brecon, Powys, Wales, LD3 8UP
Incorporated on 10 August 1994

Ashlee Rajan BABLA is named as director, and a number of other family members are in the management, so it seems this family operates Omicron Limted in WALES, which operates Science X in the Isle of Man, which operates phys.org, it is essentially a British media entity.

Interestingly, the same Ashlee Rajan BABLA is registered as director also of Canbury Interiors Contracting Ltd (14799138) whose address is also at the Wales address, and is a "Building Contractor." And he is also a director of British Sarozal Ltd (00417976) at the same address. And he is director of BSL Express Service Ltd (01290921) at the Wales address, and...

BSL Express Spares "We carry the largest stock of military aviation and naval electro mechanical components in the UK "

And...

Canbury Interiors "Canbury Interiors is a building, plumbing and heating contractor based in the Brecon Beacons, Wales. We specialize in renovations and refurbishments of homes and business premises with a passion and attention to detail that is second to none."

So phys.org, appearing an American science news site, is under the aegis of sciencex.com in the Isle of Man (a Crown dependency of the UK) and operated by mostly a large family with businesses from military parts to home renovation.

Resource bunch, eh?

“An abrupt shutdown of Atlantic Ocean currents that could put large parts of Europe in a deep freeze ...”

This is as stupid as it gets. Has anyone studied heat convection at all? As long as there is a differential between heat and cold, there is circulation. It doesn’t just exist on its own and then collapse out of the blue. The earth is a globe of convection (heat and cold) both in the ocean and atmosphere. The sun heats the atmosphere and the ocean bed volcanos heat the water which spontaneously triggers convection equalizing forces. It’s as simple as that.

Thanks. In this time, it seems a large dose of skepticism in much is advisable.

As to all the "sciency" stuff in the "media," so much seems to interlock behind the scenes with "how can we get more money out of the rubes?"

As politics invades more of this world, it seems more important to not rely on political stances, per se, as it is to rely on solid principles.

After all, the corrupt rely on corruption as the Left rely on their ideology. And both despise principled conservatives.

When I was stationed in Germany (77-81), I think it was 1979 there was a huge flood on the Mosel River...it was called a "Hundred Year Flood."

I believe it was 2 years ago, when there was another bout of major flooding. So I guess it's possible to have multiple "Hundred Year Floods" within the same century.
