An abrupt shutdown of Atlantic Ocean currents that could put large parts of Europe in a deep freeze is looking a bit more likely and closer than before as a new complex computer simulation finds a "cliff-like" tipping point looming in the future.
A long-worried nightmare scenario, triggered by Greenland's ice sheet melting from global warming, still is at least decades away if not longer, but maybe not the centuries that it once seemed, a new study in Friday's Science Advances finds. The study, the first to use complex simulations and include multiple factors, uses a key measurement to track the strength of vital overall ocean circulation, which is slowing.
A collapse of the current—called the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation or AMOC—would change weather worldwide because it means a shutdown of one of key the climate and ocean forces of the planet. It would plunge northwestern European temperatures by 9 to 27 degrees (5 to 15 degrees Celsius) over the decades, extend Arctic ice much farther south, turn up the heat even more in the Southern Hemisphere, change global rainfall patterns and disrupt the Amazon, the study said. Other scientists said it would be a catastrophe that could cause worldwide food and water shortages.
This article wants it both ways.
First, it's global warming that is melting Greenland's ice sheet.
Then it's global cooling as the melted ice cools the oceans and stops the currents.

>> phys.org is looking like a propaganda outlet these days.
If you’re ever in need of a fast, powerful emetic, mosey on over to phys.org and click on the “other sciences” item in the menu bar...
“...complex computer simulation...”
Oh yea.
I guess we need to boost that carbon footprint to try to prevent it.
Oops, I forgot that whatever the problem is, the solution is always increase taxes and take away freedoms (like travel and heating homes.) No fossil fuels for us, even if it would save the planet.
The re$ult of mo$t $tudie$ i$ more $tudie$ needed.
Like Call of Duty is a complex computer simulation. It is very realistic except for the pain part which is conveniently unsimulated. So let’s get worked up over a boring video game which simulates ocean currents.
The sky is falling. The sky is falling...
They covered the global warming issue by saying it would turn up the heat in the southern hemisphere.
All these prediction stories that are without any facts or follow up to see if those predictions ever come true, and they never do. Everyone has their hand out for money.
FEAR PORN!!!!!
THE SKY IS FALLING!!!
Oh no, we’re all going to DIE!!!!
...at least Europe will finally shut up
whining about Global Warming — from under
their 1,000 foot deep ice sheet...
The Thames froze. The weather goes in cycles, but the Lefty panic news never changes....
study says, I suppose by experts who are being paid by and funded by the climate Nazis
Pandemics too.
Sounds like only 60 or 70 years to go. I think I’ll write out a will
***A long-worried nightmare scenario, triggered by Greenland’s ice sheet melting from global warming,****
Back in the 1970s it was the fear of THE COMING ICE AGE! Plans were made to mine coal, grind it to dust, mix it with oil and spray it on the ice caps to INCREASE global warming and stop THE COMING ICE AGE!
But WE stopped the COMING ICE AGE in it’s tracks with excess CO2!
From POPULAR SCIENCE, Feb 1980..

Changing the weather intentionally or otherwise weather modification..(Earth cooling vs Greenhouse effect)
“Do you suppose we can learn enough, soon enough, to pull off a balancing act with the CO2 blanket saving us from another ice age?”
*****
AND WE DID IT!
Ahhh it never ends, the most important sentence in the whole article, prepping the masses for the "alleged" inevitable. Keep the people in FEAR. Whatever the reasoning, I can hear them saying it now: " We told you so many times there COULD be shortages ".
