No, it goes back much further back in time. In the 50s you could buy a full-sized candy bar for a nickel. Then it went up to a dime. It stayed a dime for a while and then began to shrink. Coffee used to come in 1 pound cans. The cans began to shrink, but the prices stayed the same or went up.

Taking the silver out of our money in the 60s freed up the government to print as much money as it wants, and it has been doing that for at least the last 60 years.
