How is there no transponder signal?
Lots of mountains between Vegas and San Diego. Bad weather and high winds should have kept them on the ground. A tragic waste.
Questions indeed. Plus Why did they fly? If it is not a secret or urgently needed personnel - we had really bad weather with flooding in San Diego.
If the Super Stallion also gets grounded, things are going to become very difficult for Marine Air.
Including areas that have been known to experience 400 MPH down drafts.
So sorry to hear this.
We’ve (So Cal) have had massive storms over the past two days with record amounts of rain.
I pray they are found and all are alive.
I’m thinking mountains too, the marines most likely had cell phones they must be in a no signal area. Prayers for the Marines
No Mayday? If that’s the case, bad news is almost certainly coming next.
Atmospheric river?
Here in Texas we call that a rain shower.
No need for mambe pambe california faggotry!
“Here in Texas we call that a rain shower.”
In central-west Texas I’d hear, “That was a “frog-strangler” or “gully-washer”.
Winds can reach 100 mph in the California mountains with hellacious downdrafts and updrafts. IFR in such conditions can be suicidal. Dean Martin’s son flew a Phantom into a mountain in similar weather back in 1987 .
Here is the Marine Corps subreddit if anyone has an interest in that arena:
