US political commentator Tucker Carlson came to Moscow on February 3, amid speculation that the goal of the visit is to interview Russian President Vladimir Putin, boosting the ex-Fox News host's popularity in the country. Sputnik explores why.
In one video of Tucker Carlson meeting one of his Russian fans in Moscow, a man’s voice can be heard praising the 54-year-old conservative commentator as the “best US journalist.”
The former Fox News anchor is then seen thanking the man and lauding Moscow as a beautiful city that he had planned to visit for a long time.
But why is Carlson so popular in Russia?
Some Career Flashbacks
Fox News surprisingly announced that the company and Carlson had agreed to part ways in April last year, despite the fact that he hosted the network's top-rated program at the time.
Numerous media reports suggested that Tucker was let go due to his coverage of some controversial topics - ranging from the January 6, 2021, US Capitol breach to the COVID-19 measures to White House support for Kiev in the Ukraine conflict.
Others, however, insist that Carlson was fired for his criticism of Fox News' senior management.
In early May, the ex-Fox News host took to Twitter to announce a new show on this social networking giant’s venue. Tucker added that his new program will be "a new version of the show we’ve been doing for the last six and a half years." The Tucker on Twitter show was rebranded as Tucker on X shortly after the website changed its name.
Tucker's Stance on Russia, US, Ukraine
When it comes to Carlson’s ever-increasing popularity in Russia, it’s safe to say that many Russians perceive him as a window to America, which allows them to learn about US domestic issues from sources other than the liberal press.

We did, right?
We told the world that Saddam had WMD’s and that violated our agreement with and we went to war. I guess we are the good guys there as well.
I believed we violated it first. We provoked Russia and Russia responded.
“It’s our fault. 100% our fault.”
Why don’t all you Peepers just publicly set yourself on fire protesting against that great injustice ?
So you are bashing Trump? Trump violated all kinds of agreements Obama made. He violated environmental agreements, agreements with China, and especially the one Obama made with Iran. So, you think they all should invade the U.S. and and depose Trump?
The United States should destroy it’s economy since Obama signed a suicide pact?
And you believe the next president should have to go by all the stupid agreements that Biden made?
So, you actually think the U.S. should be at constant war? We’d be in over 100 wars if we go to war with every country that violated an agreement with. The whole world would be in a constant state of war. You are the most radical neocon I’ve ever met.

Are you advocating that Canada should invade India?
That must be quite an agreement that Russia can mass an invasion Army to invade up to NATO’s borders and NATO not even be allowed to go on heightened alert, much less move troops within its own borders.
Did you disagree with President Trump’s having American troops training in Ukraine and reactivating V Corps and moving it forward to Poland from Germany, starting the policy of sending weapons to Ukraine, and rebuilding our nuclear capabilities against Russia and ending the INF treaty with Russia?
Where did I say the US should be at constant war?
I don’t believe that, but I do believe that if the US signed an agreement with Russia to keep Ukraine neutral then we should keep that. Shouldn’t we?
If the West hadn’t violated its agreement with Russia, Russia would not have had a reason to invade. If it invaded anyway, then we could have our war.
I believe our globalist leaders purposefully violated the agreement because they wanted the wealth of Ukraine and Russia, an estimated $415 trillion dollars.
According to you, the U.S. did the right thing. But you are also being disingenuous. They violated specific agreements, not just having WMD. But you say it was a good war.
Canada is a worthless nation militarily. We can’t do jack.
Canadians prefer its healthcare over being able to defend itself.
I simply think that the US should have kept its agreement with Russia.
The US obfuscated the truth on Iraq. Yes, it had some yellow mustard gas and a few other things, but it had no way of effectively delivering it to anybody.
I’m not being disingenuous. I think the ones that are being disingenuous are the ones discounting Russia’s reaction to provocations by the West, because the globalist Western leaders want Russia’s wealth and they provoked a war to get it.
If Russia goes nuclear, it will be because we started it.
The West has been violating its agreement long before. You don’t tell Russia that Ukraine is going to be ours without Russia wanting to get ready to defend in the event we take action to get Ukraine into NATO.
You must think you’ll get a share of Russia’s wealth the globalist leaders are after to take your position.
I’m not bashing Trump. As President, Trump is free to nullify any EO’s that Obama made, just like the Supreme Court could end Roe when it established Roe. That’s equal authority. One may not agree with EO nullification, such as when Bidon cancelled Trump’s EO in regards to Big Pharm, but it was his right.
We, as the West agreed to keep Ukraine neutral, but also told Russia that we intended to take Ukraine from them. What did you expect Russia’s reaction should be?
Russia isn’t in charge of Europe, and this invasion has done wonders to wake up the rest of their possible victims.
“””If Russia goes nuclear, it will be because we started it.”””
Ok....you are getting sillier the farther you go.
Russia is not in charge of Europe, but it did have an agreement that we had no intention of keeping.
My hope is that the rest of the world understands that the West can no longer be trusted to keep its agreements because we are led by men who want the world for themselves.
You don’t think that Russia won’t go nuclear if its survival is at stake?
Have you read Malachi 4? That seems to be an event we can expect before Christ comes.
>>Not only was Ukraine not a member of NATO but it hadn’t even applied for membership.
In 2008 NATO made clear its commitment for UKR to become a member. Putin made it clear that this would lead to war. NATO ignored any other security agreements (e.g., a non-aligned UKR)
NATO wanted this war. Why not? A good chance to knock Putin/Russia down a peg. No NATO troops at risk — just UKR and Russian. A great investment!
“NATO welcomes Ukraine’s and Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations for membership in NATO. We agreed today that these countries will become members of NATO. Both nations have made valuable contributions to Alliance operations. We welcome the democratic reforms in Ukraine and Georgia and look forward to free and fair parliamentary elections in Georgia in May. MAP is the next step for Ukraine and Georgia on their direct way to membership. Today we make clear that we support these countries’ applications for MAP.”

TRUMP-”But if we didn’t have it we couldn’t talk but I listened to him constantly using the n word , that’s the n word, and he’s constantly using it. The nuclear word, and we never talk, we say oh, he’s a nuclear power, but we’re a greater nuclear power.”
(snip)
“You should say look , if you mention that word, one more time, we’re going to send them over and we’ll be coasting back and forth up and down your coast. You can’t let this tragedy continue. You can’t let these thousands of people die. It’s going to be hundreds of thousands and maybe millions of people by the time it ends.”
