Denny's has closed its only restaurant in Oakland, California because of concerns about customer and staff safety.
The announcement came just over a week after cult West Coast burger chain In-N-Out Burger said that it will close its Oakland restaurant in March.
COO Denny Warnick attributed to the "frequency and severity" of crimes experienced by its customers and staff. The company said that these included car break-ins, property damage, theft, and armed robberies.
This will be the first time In-N-Out has ever had to close a restaurant.
The Denny's and In-N-Out restaurants are located just under a mile from each other.

Let them eat crack.
Eating at a Dennys as I post - still like the ‘Americana’ feel of the place, food is reasonably edible too.
Denny’s was the spot my husband and I would pick whether on the road or not. He loved their breakfasts. We moved from CA to GA and I don’t believe we found a Denny’s anywhere on the highway (20?) until we were out or nearly out of TX. After we settled here the only Denny’s was in an area we didn’t WANT to go to so that was it for Denny’s..and the end of eating breakfasts out. He’s gone now but he did love their breakfasts..Grand Slam as I recall...
My sympathies for your loss. I don’t understand how you could not find a Dennys in TEXAS (my home state) because they are all over here.
Thank you. I have no idea. We left San Diego on the I-8 (?) and somewhere along the line had a choice of I-10 or I-20. I’m sure we took the I-20 - just like we knew what we were doing. Only mapquest to help at that time.
My statement may have been an exaggeration as I seem to recall going into a Denny’s somewhere around an Army base in TX but settled for Whataburger in other places and those even involved really getting off the main highway - nothing that was easy to pull into off the highway. The next Denny’s I recall is getting to the eastern part of Texas...Boy - as one gets older it takes awhile for names to come out of the old noggin...but I don’t have to remind anyone of that!
