Denny's has closed its only restaurant in Oakland, California because of concerns about customer and staff safety.
The announcement came just over a week after cult West Coast burger chain In-N-Out Burger said that it will close its Oakland restaurant in March.
COO Denny Warnick attributed to the "frequency and severity" of crimes experienced by its customers and staff. The company said that these included car break-ins, property damage, theft, and armed robberies.
This will be the first time In-N-Out has ever had to close a restaurant.
The Denny's and In-N-Out restaurants are located just under a mile from each other.

You can go to Denny’s in Emeryville or San Leandro, just not on Hegenberger.

We used to live in CA and so it’s been a long time since we frequented their establishments but they WERE THE GREATEST! Had one near the UCI campus in Irvine, CA.

It’s like the extinction of the woolly mammoths in the last Ice Age. The hunter gatherers will have to up stakes and find a new happy looting ground.
Good for them. Best thing that could happen is no groceries, pharmacies, restaurants or retail in the dystopian neighborhoods. Let the residents have to put extreme effort into having to fend for themselves.
I’m reminded now with a presidential election coming up that we went over to UCI to see Ross Perot when he ran for president - 1992. I believe we went to In N Out at that time since we were in the area. We lived on the other side of the freeway. Our daughter was a senior in high school at the time and didn’t have an interest in what was going on politics-wise but she knew where we’d be and she and her boyfriend showed up and found us in the crowd.
