I remember back in 1968, when all media attention was on the murder of Bobby Kennedy, a South California gun manufacturing company was raided by the BATF. They had been making unlicensed sub machine guns for use in South America.
It was found that the Lyndon Johnson Administration may have been giving consent to such manufacture at that time.
The story was noted in the NRA magazine American Rifleman but ignored by others as they were more interested in banning 5 shot bolt action army surplus rifles and foreign “Saturday Night Specials” from US citizens.
I should also mention that there was a time when the US government was supplying unmarked ammo to various foreign terrorist groups.
No head stamp on the ammo, but some enterprising news reporter found the foreign ammo had Berdan primers while the unmarked US ammo had Boxer primers which allowed foreign nations to place the blame on the US.
Ah, the things I remember from my youth.
