I’m done with you. I have read plenty of books, and it’s crazy that you continue to throw out insults. You are rude. I only responded in kind after your first post to me. Go reread it.

“The catalyst for this mass movement was the humiliation following WW II”. I stated WWI. What, you don’t make mistakes?

My father played an instrumental role as part of the U.S. occupation forces in Japan, an officer responsible for the needs of thousands of Japanese immediately after WWII. Even correspondence with MacArthur. He was there for 4 years, and did not sense any animosity by Japanese towards him. The Japanese did not exhibit racial superiority, or a license to mass murder and enslavement. Contrast that to muslim Arabs in Gaza who celebrated with glee at the enslavement and torture of Israeli victims. What, you didn’t hear about that? They want you to die!

As for Japan/China conflicts, Chinese repeatedly had conflicts and mistreated Japanese. They would kidnap Japanese women, tie them outside their boats while attacking Japanese. Innocent Japanese women, tortured by Chinese. You think that doesn’t deserve retribution? The animosity goes back hundreds of years.

Read a book yourself.

I have. About Japan and about China. No mention of any of this.

“Read a book yourself.”

OK. Get me started. Give me your source for that assertion.

“The catalyst for this mass movement was the humiliation following WW II”. I stated WWI. What, you don’t make mistakes?

I self-corrected that mistake in the very next post. What? You don’t admit mistakes?

“My father played an instrumental role as part of the U.S. occupation forces in Japan, an officer responsible for the needs of thousands of Japanese immediately after WWII. “

That’s funny. I was speaking of Germany after WW I, and the rise of Nazism.

“The Japanese did not exhibit racial superiority, or a license to mass murder and enslavement. “

You’ve just proven my point. During WW II, they were exhibiting the same racial superiority complex that the Germans did. They used Chinese civilians tied to stakes for bayonete practice and to have fun with samurai swords. They committed mass murder and rape, and did evil experiments on civilians in Manchuria. After WW II, when your father was stationed there, they were defeated and ordered by their Emperor to lay down their arms and surrender. Total defeat caused a paradigm shift, exactly as I said.

After WW I, Germany was defeated and humiliated, and impoverished by hyperinflation. They turned to mustache boy, who reassured them that Germany was not defeated by “stabbed in the back” by the Joooos! and the communists, too, but to Hitler that was just repeating himself. With a convenient scapegoat, the Protocols of the Elders of Zion taken as documentary proof, with a dash of Nietzsche and Chamberlain (the philosopher, not that statesman), and Eugenics taken to the extreme, the paradigm shift from civilized, cultured Germans to virulent Nazi mass murderers was established. After WW II, with Germany in ruins and disgraced by the genocidal mass murder that Hitler and his cronies implemented, they were ready for another paradigm shift, because the last one did not work and was their ruination.

Even so, it took many years. The former Hitler Youth organized into the Werwolven and attempted terrorism. Oskar Schindler died in poverty because his heroic efforts to save lives for fun and profit made him into a traitor in the eyes of the unrepentant anti-Semites/Nazis still around. So they persecuted him. Also, he was a drunken womanizer and his wife left him.

“Contrast that to muslim Arabs in Gaza who celebrated with glee at the enslavement and torture of Israeli victims. What, you didn’t hear about that? They want you to die!”

No sh!t, Sherlock. And my remedy for that attitude problem is the remedy that ultimately worked in Germany and Japan: 1. Defeat them totally and unequivocally. 2. Re-settle the Philadelphi Corridor (Gush Katif) with the original settlers whom Sharon forcibly evicted, and any other brave souls who are willing. 3. Throw out their hateful school textbooks and give the kids a normal education. 4. Encourage any Palis who are not okay with all this to emigrate, preferably to South America, where the other Nazi criminals went after they lost the war. Interact cautiously with the Palis. Give them jobs, do business with them. By cautiously I mean with the same security gates and documentation requirements that Palis in Judah and Samariah go through to work in Jewish areas. Help them in other ways, albeit cautiously.

You have mischaracterized these proposals as “appeasing” and “sycophancy,” and therefore, you deserve any of the supposed “insults” that I have directed at you.

I could tell you some stories of my experiences in Gush Etzion. But honestly, I’m relieved that you are through with me, because your inability to understand context and chronology is getting on my nerves.

ST Coleridge said in Biographia Literaria (another good book that I recommend) that “if you do not understand a man’s ignorance, presume yourself ignorant of his understanding.” In your case, I am not sure if your glaring errors are ignorance, studious efforts to mis-understand, or just plain stupidity. But the common denominator of all three possibilities is a complete lack of understanding, which I have illustrated to my satisfaction, and perhaps others’ satisfaction as well.

I appreciate your concern for the welfare of Israelis here, but quite frankly, we know what we were getting into, and right now the goings on in America and Europe are much more alarming. Get your own country in order.

Arabs and Jews have lived together, sometimes acrimoniously and sometimes harmoniously, for four millennia. We are cousins, in fact. The harmony is hard to come by, but actually an accomplished fact in much of Israel, as I know from my own experience. So thanks for the advice. I’m sure it was well meant. But we’ve got this.
